I've read about the MJ Mod kit that is used to turn a maxi-jet into a prop style powerhead. Is there a local source for buying one of these kits? I'm looking for a way of increasing to flow in my 20L and already have a MJ 900.
Thanks,
Jeff

My current MJ does around 230 gph which is 11.5x flow. The mod would put it at around 1500 (says the website?) which would be ~ 75 flow. I agree that a ton of flow, but it isn't unheard of is it? Would there be a way I could block some of the slots of the housing to "dial down" the flow.

75x flow isn't unheard of, but that is usually used in larger tanks. My concern would be that for how shallow and small the tank is. Those MJ Mods put out a LOT of power.
I would think with how shallow that tank is, the amount of suction would create a vortex in the water, and if there's sand, suck that up too.
would that mod be possible on other powerheads or just the MJ?

Maybe its time to rethink the mod. I currently only have softies but am thinking about getting a start with a lps or two. Any suggestions for a good way to create some more flow in the tank? The hydor prop PH's look cool but I have read about recalls and availability problems. I'm trying to keep the amount of equipment in the tank down, so the idea of one MJ mod in the tank for flow seemed pretty good.

I tried a medium flow kit in my 20long, waaay to much, it was splashing out of the other side, its alot of flow in my 75. maybe if you can find a smaller prop than the octura 1435, or cut it down considerably.

i'm using a mj1200 on the side w/ the flow thing pointed at the surface, enough flow for my sps. i also tried the cutoff maxijet, and that was a little to hard and direct, my suggetstion is if 1 mj1200 isnt enough for you, possibly try 2 600's pointed at each other, that would give nice, random flow. or if you're pooping money ( which I doubt anyone with a 20 gallon is, my self included! :) you could get a nanostream 6025. but I think that would still be a little much

i will say that I would highly recommend the mj mod kit on any larger tank though, it's awesome!
