what would one expect to pay for a neon green toadstool 4 inches tall and 3inches across?
My freind has some for sale but I have never given a softy the time of day till I saw this bright @$$ one!

ORA Neon toadstools frags ( 1" ) go for $50 retail. Some of that is for the ORA name.
But if it's bright enough green then it is worth something and definately worth something to the LFS as trade in as they can always sell this type of coral if the color is nice. So fragged often can generate some store credit.

so 80 for a 3 inch one is not to much? what about a 12inch mother colony?

If your wanting to keep it for show then I guess how much it's worth is really up to you. If wanting to use as frag stock, how sure you are on the color being bright enough to market. It's really all about the color as without it toadstools really are worth much at all. For any size softy, $80 would be about as much as I would pay and that's only if it's marketable to recoupe some of money in future. But if you really like it, onlly you can determine if it's worth more or not.
For fragging purposes, I don't like for it to get more than about 2" before cutting it into 4ths ( atcually fifths cut the top off then disk into 4 pieces. I use the needle/thread method for attaching ). Tends to make better looking frags if you keep it small and never let it get big. Larger ones can look funny when fragged because the polyps are so long in relation to the disk.
Within the club there really isn't a huge demand for softies so if you went that direction you need to find a fish store ahead of time that would be interested in giving store credit.
