Welcome to the beta version of TCMAS forums. Please enjoy and feedback is welcomed! Let me be the first to explain the concept here. We as a club our growing at a rapid pace. Our current home is the second largest forum on TRT as far as threads and posts are concerned. One of our goals when being elected was to improve the tcmas.org website. Which we have done and Dale is doing a phenominal job with designing it. I have done alot of thinking on haveing our own club site be a one stop shop for the club. There are alot of things that are benefits of haveing our own forum run entirelly by the club.
Flexability, we have the option to add as many forums or remove as many forums as need be. I have installed a chat program that will be accesible to the members and a photohosting program. No need to visit photobucket anymore! Plus there are more things that will be added in time.
Fundraising, We are allways in need of funds for speakers and events. By having our own forum that the club controls, the sponsors would not only pay help pay for the site but also contribute to the general fund.
For example. Site hosting would run roughly about $10 dollars a month if we have ten sponsors at $10 a month. That is $90 a month into the fund after the site costs are paid and over a $1000 a year just from the site!
Now we can still continue our raffles and what not but this is a way to have a dedicated income for the club.
A couple of benefits to the current layout of this forum.
1. A classified section for all to see.
2. A OT section for all to see. Non-club members will not have to worry about not seeing their threads because they cannot access a MO forum.
3. Sponsor Forums, each sponsor will have there own forum where they can post their deals/specials handle concerns or brag about their business or products that they sell.
4.Dedicated forums for corals.
5. Ask Bill Capman. We have a extrodinary biologist amongst us who is a abundance of knowledge when it comes to aquaria. Granted Mr. Capman would have to agree to a forum like this, but I think it would be beneficial addition for our club to have.
6. Better organization of our forum. Right now we are very cluttered IMO
A couple of disadvantages.
1. We kind of lose our current database of knowledege we have. However it time we will have it back, but the TRT forum could remain open and is quickly referenced at the top of the page under affiliates.
2. Our post count gets reset. However if it really is a big concern your post count can be modified to 5 billion. IMO this is a non-issue
This is in by no means meant to disrespect Gregt or anyone at TRT as they have been great hosts and great friends. It may be time however to take the path of clubs like MARSH and PNWMAS. The club still needs to vote on this to be instated. I uploaded this to my server as a look,see, play with it and go from there idea. I know the controversy that gets started whenever this has been brought up in the past and trust me I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of designing this and modifying code for hours on end if I did not truly believe that it would benefit the club in the long run.
