My friend just had a clutch of sexy shrimp hatch. He wants to rear them. Would the procedure be the same as with peppermint shrimp? Anybody have an article or tips they can throw my way?
Thanks,
Tim

Interesting. If I can't find any info I have a small article on rearing peppermints that I will follow. I haven't seen them yet but I wish I had a dissecting scope so I could see them up close.

Phil,
Thanks for the link. Apparently, it is fairly easy to rear sexy shrimp. They can be reared on baby brine shrimp alone. I found a thread on that website that shows the progress of one woman's attemp at rearing. She did it successfully in about 30 days. I'll let you know how this works out.

Anyone here have experience hatching baby brine shrimp. I figure it will take about 24 hours for them to hatch. Any tips or anything to look out for?

I want to say David Grigor and BioChem Robyn have posted about it. Stuckey_t was writing about live foods as well. One of them might be able to point you in the right direction.
BTW - if they make it, I'd love to get one. I like the idea of buying locally aquacultured livestock.

I'm not sure what he will want to do with them, if some survive. I will let him know that there are some prospective buyers. Hopefully it will work and there will be more batches in the future. I will try to take pictures if I can. My camera skills aren't that great though.

Thanks for the link!
It would be cool if my sexy shrimp had eggs some day. I think my Tunzes would give them a quick death though.
In the thread I referred to earlier, the woman who raised her sexy shrimp found that they were sexually mature in 100 days.

I wish him luck with the Sexys... Peps are supposed to be easy, but to get a high success rate is... well, you won't just stumble onto it.
As for sexy, fire, or cleaners... if they were easy they would be less expensive and we would see Tank Raised advertised as a selling point.
Again, I wish him luck, but worry about selling them AFTER you have a bunch settle. ;)

Looks like he should be able to pull it off. Nice that they eat baby brine.

So how's the shrimp raising going?

I'm sorry to say that it didn't work out. He never really got the right amount of baby brine shrimp going for it to work and left his house for a couple days. I got to see them though and that was cool, way too small to take a pic with my camera/skills. His shrimp do have eggs again so I think he will try it again.

i am about to attempt peppermint shrimp. but untill those shrimp release their eggs, i have been playing with hermit crab larva.
so far,
vial with 3 larva and fed with egg layer first food (didnt have brine shrimp ready)- all dead
vial with 3 larva and phyto, 1 alive at 24 hours. probably nearly starved to death, but i added brine shrimp.
rearing tank needs a big cleaning before i even dare any larva raising attempts.

I have an article on raising peppermint shrimp with a procedure somewhere. I could give you the magazine if you would like.
