so I have a new angelfish that I thought had ick but it has come and gone but never stays on him more then a day at most!!! it has happened 2 times and I have had him for about 2-3 weeks now. I thought it was my coral food at first because it was right after a feeding that it first showed up and that was after having him for about a week

what do you think is going on? I don't know what I should do because I don't want to treat the whole tank for ick and kill my corals. I have heard some of you mix the food with garlic or something to treat them?

let me know

Ich often seems to disappear during the night, so the fish will look like they are uninfested in the morning. I think the easiest time to see spots on the fish is late in the day.

IMO unless it is easy for you to catch the fish and treat it with hyposalinity in a qt tank for a few weeks, it may just be the best option to soak the food in garlic and let the fish develop its own immunity (as long as the infestation remains light and the fish is eating).

For frozen food I let it thaw out and then squeeze the juice out of it. Then I put it in some Garlic Guard and squeeze it again so it sponges some of it up. Then I feed it to the fish. I also take strips of dried nori and put them on a plate, and dribble GG on it and wait until it's almost dry before putting it in the clip (if it's too dry it sticks to the plate). Kyolic is another garlic product you could use, more concentrated, but a lot more expensive ($15 for 2 oz). You can get it at health stores.

well it was in the morning I thought I saw the ick but when I came home after school it was gone. and it has only happened to him 2 times out of the 15-20 days I have had him. right now I don't have a QT tank up and running yet but I am going to make my 40g into a fish only/QT tank. for that garlic you guys are talking about is that just household garlic or is it something I have to get from a LFS?

Garlic Guard is made by SeaChem. Not sure what you mean by household garlic. If you mean chopping up cloves, that may work, but I haven't tried it.

I have a PB tang that has had a little ich for some time now, and I notice it mostly during the evening. I guess it varies from case to case
