Back in October wolmutt told me to try something out and put a few different colored moni caps near each other. These second pictures were taken under actinics and aren't very crisp, but you'll get the point. In the first picture the lower orange piece recently broke off while I was trying to clean around the glass and I had to glue it back down so that is why it's lower and to the left in the second picture. Anyway, enjoy:

With the actinics the purple from the middle cap is really washed out - but I still liked this second shot. You can see how far it has encrusted back up onto the rock. If you look at the very first picture there is a whole in the rock to the left, that's how far these corals have encrusted back up onto the rock. They've also spread pretty far out from the rock.

Might have to move this to the dirty sump then ... lol

I was running 2x250 Reeflux 12k DE, but recently switched to a 6-bulb ATI powermodule. The new fixture has one of the pro color bulbs that has really highlighted the pinks/reds in the tank.

The corals that I've posted have really been my better growers, I still have many that have only been encrusting and laying down a base for the last few months and not really gone vertical.

Offer is still open for you to come by sometime (even if I don't have that light fixture for you to buy :) )

Not sure - I think that it came from HermitSolo's tank though. I know that I bought the orange and green caps from civil (another member on here who doesn't post as often).

Nice Eric! I forgot, are you running a Ca rx? I can never get that kind of growth out of caps for some reason.

I'm really impressed with your idea of layering the three different colors of caps. Gives the tank a very dynamic visual quality (i.e., more reef-like).

Off topic: Where can I find the red version of this coral?

Thanks Ben! Just 2-part. No Ca rx.

Thanks Robyn. (it was wolmutt's idea though...) They do seem to sting each other as they grow together, but I'm just letting them compete. It's pretty neat to watch over time.

Very kewl look.Does the monti on the bottom that is covered loose any color?

That a sweet pic, you gotta enter that into the contest.... the notion of 'grafting' sps such as M caps, is sweet!

"red version" can you be more clear?

Yes, they lose color as they are shaded from the new growth.

I love seeing tanks that have sps all intertwined. Even if they are stinging each other, I still think that it looks pretty natural. So far it's working in my case.

red colored?

On a side note, is that a copperband?

Was a copperband. I had it in my tank for 3 months then it just died randomly. It was eating frozen and picked off all of the aptasia in my tank (and feather dusters). My favorite fish by far. Others thought that it could have died because of cyanide poisoning while being collected. Too bad...

Well I dunno what to call it exactly, but I imagine there is a red colored monti cap, even blue would be ok. I like the look of these, but have way too much green and orange in my tank and would like some variety. Are they super expensive in the LFS?

Probably.
