i have some 10k xm's you can borrow if you want.
we need to meet up with you anyhow, so that would work. they say 10k is brighter than 14 or 20k anyhow, so if you want to go for power, that would be the best option... and its a little closer to natural sunlight.

Have you considered or are you running the 175W Iwasaki 15ks. May be a bit whiter than your looking for but they are supposedly put out as much or more intensity as many 250Wers.....

i'm already running xm10k's, and i'd be really impressed if the iwasaki's are brighter, anyone compared the 2?
btw, thanks everyone for the generousity. I can't remeber who but if any of you guys are already coming over saturday to get frags, that would probably make it easier

I don't know what ballast your running.
If you used Sanjay's calculator and use Icecap 175W ballast as an example, 10K xm 175W = 70,
Iwasaki 15K 175w = 86
so 20% difference and is not going to be as yellow as yours looks today, and input wattage on the Icecap is 165W vs 179W for the XM10K. Not bad.
250XM 10K is 20% more than the Iwasaki 15k ( 114 vs 86 )but is als 35% more electricity too ( 165W vs. 256W ) also assuming icecap ballast. While the 10K XM will look more yellow as well. Most other 250W bulbs is going to less of an increase or none at all.
Here's the calculator is you don't have the link, to play around with:

while I don't put 100% stock in PAR numbers its at least a decent way to judge intensity.

yeah, i've been all over that, very helpful, but where did you get those numbers- 70 and 86, is that the PAR? if so, damn. I'm running mag ballasts btw.so, ya got an iwasaki I can try?? :)

Those number are Sanjays ( see the link I provided to the calculator ). He has the most trusted numbers around.
No, I'm a retired MH user. Have always been curious on those bulbs since they came out well over a year ago and have been tempted but I haven't owned a 175w ballast for over 6 years now and no plans to buy just to play.

K, just never knew that number was the PAR. Changed title to suit

Numbers aren't as good when using just regular M57 ballast. 71 vs. 62. so just 12% increase but a slight decrease in wattage used ( 9w ) but the Iwasaki will not be as yellow as yours today.
250W 10K XM on starts m58 ballast blows it away 49% increase but also uses 40% more wattage to do it ( 189W vs 315W ).

yeah, I seen that. I'm figuring I wouldn't have enough actinic to compensate for that
