I am starting a new tank and would like to put in a pair of clowns :smileykiss2:. I was thinking of getting 4 clowns and seeing if I would get a pair out of them.

Would this work?
Is there anything I can do to help? :violin: some nice music ;)
Would I have to worry if they came from the same pair?

Thanks for the help

If you buy juvenile clowns, then you just need two.

Try to find a nice looking pair, try to have one a little larger than the other. It worked with our perculas.

If there from the same parents would they still pair up and maybe even breed?
Also if i did have 4 of them in my tank would they form a hierarchy, and be a family so to speak? or would the pair kill the other 2?

If you have no plans to raise the fry, parents shouldn't matter. I have no experience with buying more than 2. If there were all purchased as jueveniles most tank raised are real young, likely 1 would turn female, 1 male, and the others would stay jueveniles.

I was thinking it would be fun to see if i can raise them. See how good of a parent i can be.

I was just reading the new marine breeder book. And he says that you shouldnt put four in the tank. They will pair up and kill the other pair. Or harrass to do death. You can put three in the tank because the third is accepted and stays a juvenile. But if it is in a large tank, the third one will just stay seperated from the pair.

Best way to go is to get two juveniles. One will become the dominant one and be female. the other will stay small and be the male.
