I was thinking of a Kole or Tomini tang in my 40B. Would this work?

I have an oversized skimmer and about 80 gallons system volume so I'm not worried about nutrients. I am planning on 3 - maybe four fish tops. The tang, a mandarin (or 2) and maybe a blennie or little australian blue damsel if they do in fact eat flatworms.

A 40 breeder is really too small for any tang. I know Chad had sucess keeping 3 large tangs in a small tank and I have no clue how he is pulling it off. It is possible but of course not recommended

Ya mine are in prison until the new tank is up. Unfortunately they've been in there alot longer than I expected. I keep them very well fed and pet them daily:gay1: They have learned to become pretty good friends though but thats what happens when your in the pokey:biggrin: I wouldn't try the kole thats just me though I haven't had very good luck in smaller tanks. But my Tomini is very fat and happy and they come from the same family so go figure. They cram them in a the pet stores give a tomini a shot get a smaller one though feed him lots of nori and vitamins because they like to constantly swim and eat:biggrin:

hm... You'll have a lot of flow, right? They need that exercise and I imagine a lotta flow like being a hamster wheel... it's not exactly open swimming, but it's better than nothing. You could do it for a while, and I imagine without another big flattish fish, there wouldn't be much for territory issues. Still, that's a small tank for a tang.

the kole style tang, IMO is one of the few that seems to grow fairly slow and would probably be fine in a 40 for a good while. I had a yellow in a 40br for over a year, and then moved it to a 65 for another year, now it is in a 90, and that will be its final resting place. I had no problems with it in the 40 though. The key is to have a really good skimmer, and good husbandry. As long as the water column stays clean, and you have good flow, it should be fine. Now, if we were talking about a PB, Regal, or Naso, I would say it is not a good long term home for them, but the kole should be a.o.k.
