So my 4 year old had a friend over to play. This kid put a whole tote of toys into my tank, there were trains and cars, drum sticks and bells, and all of the parts of Mr Potato head, not to mention a couple pieces of sidewalk chalk! Yikes. I almost screamed at him, but had to bite my tounge. My H2O params looked ok but I don't want to take any chances, I am going to do a 25% water change, any other suggestions? Should I pump up the carbon and filter the heck out of the tank too? I don't think it's contaminated, just filthy.

Do another waterchange in a day or so. If you have a chance, run some carbon. If you're really paranoid, run a poly filter for a few days and pay special attention to what color it turns after a day. If it's bluish, there may be copper in the system.
If everything looks good within the next few days, you should be fine.
I'm thinking everything will be ok. :)
Also, drive home that the penalty of tank tampering lol

My fav was when my then 2yo put about 7 Disney movies into my tank! He also decided the fish were hungry at the time and dumped the entire jar of fish food in. You know the biggest jar I could find. My husband called me on the phone to find out how to get the food out! (Failed to mention the movies at the time I am sure he feared for his life!) I had no losses luckly but it was fish only. My this was 8 years ago and I still cant believe it happened with him 4 feet away on his computer!

yikes, scared about this all the time too! In the last month or so my 2 yr old boy has been pulling a chair over to the tank and then making a mess in the water. Guess this is the only draw back to having the tank in the toy room! I have never had to clean my glass as much.

:rotflmao: barbwire were needed!
I did have to put a child lock on the sump right away. I sure would have had some major problems there if not. Lately we are just discouraging him from taking the chair over there, the only problem is when we are upstairs in the kitchen getting ready for supper. I have been conemplating putting a small piece of glass on the front side of the tank too.

Aaaah, yes. Discipline is a wonderful thing. My nephew decided to start banging on my tank once. I won't say what I did in public, but he won't go within five feet of it anymore. *hee*
Touch my stuff and die.

Yesterday he confirmed that putting glass on the front of the tank would only cause him to go to the back side... We just had baby #2 last month and #1 has just been defiant "any attention is better than none". When will this antagonistic behavior subside???
