Anyone know of a place in which one can independently and easily ID their own clownfish (or other fish) to specific latin species?
I'm constantly tired of checking retail sites for latin names of the hard-to-find fish, let alone being able to identify a fish when I see one.
Even more challenging when wanting to buy one on the spot.
I've found it's especially difficult when trying to ID the clarkii-like species.

Helpful sites and/or books?

I would try wetwebmedia.com. They usually have a decent list with genus species names.

look around for keywords such as "clarkii complex"

http://quamut.com/quamut/clownfish/page/clownfish_varieties.html

The Clarkii Complex consists of A. akindynos, A. allardi, A. bicinctus, A. clarkii, . chagosensis, A. chrysogaster , A. chrysopterus, A. fuscocaudatus, A. latifasciatus, A. omanensis, and A. tricinctus

hope this helps with the clownfish questions.

aye. all is great, but i'm still in search of the actual taxonomy identification. most places can give me a picture, but they cannot tell me what in the fish makes it different from similar fish in the complex. the closest i've found is www.clownfishandanemones.com, but even there, help is limited.
