New System in the works

A little early for a build thread I know, but I'm uber excited that my new custom rimless tank is officially on order.

The dimensions are 30x30x18h which will come out to just about 70 gallons.

I'll be adding pics of course as the build progresses.

It's glass. Marineland makes the tank in standard form (with rims) but they are custom building one for me in rimless form. Overflow will be located in the corner.

Now I have to scurry and build a stand for it so I'm ready to rock when it gets in. I'll probably just oversize the stand a little bit so I don't end up building it to small by mistake. I won't really be able to measure the outer dimensions of the tank until it comes in...

Still waiting patiently for the tank to come in... I hate waiting. It's been a little over a week, so a week or two left until it's here!

In the meantime this is the mockup of the stand I'll be building. Had to do something to bide my time....

I've been kicking around that idea as well... I haven't decided if it's going in the corner of the room or on the center of the wall yet.

I'd do a corner...at least this way all the wires are hidden and the overflow is nicely sits where the corner wall is.

If I am thinking your going to put it on the same wall where your other tank was, I would go with center. Focal point of the room.....

And here in lies the dilema....

The corner works, and hides the overflow, but the last time I had an overflow in that corner I had a darn Royal Gramma get stuck in there and didn't get it out until I tore the tank down...

The center makes more of a focal point, but you'll see the overflow from the side...

At this point I'm leaning towards the center.

Hmmmm - can see an overflow - VS - possible expensive fish.....I would go with center, SAVE THE FISH!!!

BTW did ya finally get the lil dude out of your overflow??

Sure did! After I drained the entire tank and shimmied it away from the wall so I could get behind it. He's just happy as a clam, a happy clam that is.

I would also consider making an overflow cover

ya know.. SWE has a 30X30 stand for 50 bucks...

Might get ya going while you build a new one.. or perhaps.. you wouldn't feel the need? It is a perfecto/marineland stand.

I did not. FL Pets ordered it for me. I did talk to fritz a great deal about it, but in the end FL Pets was more convenient. Fritz even recommended that I buy it from them in this particular case.

I will be making an overflow cover!

Clint the Marineland stand looks nice but it is Way to short. If you've seen the giant (300g I think) tank at SWE, the 70 cube stand is the same height.

:( if it were taller I would have jumped on it!

Downside of custom built/special order tanks is it takes a bit longer... :(

Still a lot to get done before there's a pic with water in it. But I'm patiently waiting!
