I agree. As soon as a snail dies or the temp gets wacky, the whole works will probably turn to a stinky mess.

You should also think harder about the RODI. It won't take long and it will pay for itself and you won't have to lug jugs around.

Yep. If you already have a 55 gal. then it would be cheaper and easier to get an ro/di unit. Depending on how much water you change it would prolly pay for itself in a year or so...

Apology accepted, and my goal is for something to continue to thrive in here but if it doesn't work out I got a back-up 2.5g

Tell that to my dad....I keep saying that we need an RO/DI system and he just won't buy one. Once I get a job, an RO/DI system is at the top of the list so that I'll have RO water to help fill up my soon-to-be 20g.

Sell the idea to your dad that it could also be used for drinking water!! I just added a drinking water kit from BRS to my RO/DI system and the wife loves it!

That tank is pretty cool. I love the "Iwagumi visual effect" of a small reef that scales to a full size tank. I have an Aqueon Evolve 2 that is begging to be setup, Maybe I'll steal some corals from my frag tank and throw it together in a couple of days now!

    Good luck with it.

Mike didn't tell you if you got it or not? I thought he usually interviews them the day they hand in their application. Did you do an interview?

He said when he comes down and me and my dad didn't know if that meant down to AV or down from the register (we waited and looked like he was too busy).

Ok, haven't done an update in a while due to getting back into the swing of things for school (who gives homework during the first month!? :/ )

    Some changes have taken place.
-No more light (used the bulb for my desktop tank at my school)
-Moved tank on shelf next to window
-took out the ric. (wasn't doing so hot)

These pics are slightly out-dated (bout a week old) but will take more pictures when I get the time.

Random red cluster. You can see things moving so I assume baby mini-stars.

    ric. now removed

this is a experiment of mine so any feedback you have is extremely helpful in trying to get this working.

    Hope you like!

I do have to agree with David and Hypertech here. The intent with these comments are not to be mean or criticize, they're opinions and valid advice. :agree:

Although frogspawn are fairly hardy critters, I wouldn't try it in such a small space, especially without any flow or lighting. Frogspawn usually prefer moderate to high lighting and moderate flow to thrive. They can survive with less, but are you sure you want it to just survive? I also think that it wouldn't be happy in tap water, which I will address below.

If you already buy RO water for the 55 and this tank is under half gallon, it is not going to be that big of a deal to just use some of the RO for the 55. Tap water is never a good idea, regardless of the size of the tank or it's inhabitants. Also, regarding the bold text in your quote.. I would like to point out that when one asks for advice and it is promptly given, it's rather foolish to disregard it in the manner that it was. When long time, experienced members give advice to you, it's typically correct.

While I applaud you for challenging yourself, I feel like you're biting off a bit more than you will be able to chew at this point and we all want you to succeed. I would start off using your 2.5 gallon for the best chance at that. :agree: :2cents:

Well so far nothing bad has actually come out of Tap-Water, everything is stable, happy and healthy. But as I have mentioned in a separate thread, I finally have gotten a RO/DI system and since all my water I'm using for my Pico is coming from the 10g reef (which will now be getting RO) tap water will soon be a thing of the past.

Although I did bite off more than I could chew in the begining, I have removed the Shroom and now I'm able to swallow it (poor analogy I know lol)

Lastly, this isn't valid advice. It's just an insolent comment.
