I purchased some sps corals from uniquecorals.com and I'm wondering how you all acclimate your corals after they've been shipped. In the past I've just dipped them in Bayer and put them in the tank. But do you guys think I need to drip acclimate them before dipping them?

As far as parameter acclimation for coral, I just do temperature. The other values don't matter in my opinion.

Don't forget to quarantine your SPSs unless you see them frag in person or know the seller tank very well.

For my dip i use half tank water and half the water it comes in. (i also use bayer)

Then i rinse in tank water

Then i place it in the tank

Ive never lost anything using this method. Nearly all of my sps losses have come from me being too lazy to mount the coral after its on the rack a while and it gets knocked into something else and stung to death before i notice

    Good luck! :)

This is a great thread. I've never dipped as all my previous sps came from New Wave or other members who frag them on the spot.

I'm curious why you wouldn't dip if they were fragged on the spot? I assume things like red bugs and AEFW would be on the coral, not just the plug.

The reason you can pass by with the "frag on the spot" is you can see the tank and colonies in person so you have some idea how healthy they are or if the tank have bugs. You can pass by without quarantine them, but still need to dip them. I'm personally put all my new sps in quarantine tank when I got them. With all the frags that "frag right on the spot", I still do that but the time quarantine it will be much faster than wild colony or anything I don't see it frag in person. Just my 0.02 cents.

+1 dip in bayer, remove from the frag plug, and remount to a new frag plug.

+1. Exactly what I do. I remove old plug before Bayer.
