Here are some tips on how to take great pics of your fish by a guy on another site. If anyone has more tips please share. I want everyone to learn how to take great shots of thier fish.

Camera is in manual mode (I always shoot in manual mode) using the fastest shutter speed you can get. I usually use an f/8 or f/11 aperture. Use the fastest shutter speed you can get--something in the 1/200 sec. range

Fish are difficult because they don't stop. I find something to sit on and identify a place where the fish I want to photograph tends to frequently stop, turn, and/or pause. I then wait for the fish to come to that spot. Chasing them up and down the length of the tank will just make you tired.

An aperture of f/8 or f/11 (ISO is usually 400, but sometimes 800) will give you enough DOF to get most, if not all, of the fish in focus. Try to get shots in which the fish body is parallel to the glass/camera. As with all animals, the most important thing is to get the eyes in focus. The human eye will accept a good deal of the rest of the body being out of focus if the eyes are sharp. If the eyes are not sharp, your mind will reject the photo.

You simply have to be patient and take a lot of photos. As with all things, with practice, you'll get some good ones.

I may be missing something here Shane - why are we not supposed to post the pics here?

I would think a POTM contest within the club should allow everyone in the club to see the submissions?

Let me know if I am wrong and if I am not - what your reasoning is behind only considering email submissions for the contest.

FWIW - if a lady wins this - I have plenty of equipment to loan you for the MOA prize if you dont have any.

I am 5'3" and about 130 so if you are within 2" height and 15lbs my gear will fit you and you are welcome to use it.

As someone who has dove the MOA tanks on more than one occasions - this is an awesome prize all!!!!

Edit - we do have some guys that can fit my gear - you are welcome to it as well : )

I believe it is to keep anonymity(friends voting for friends, popularity contest, etc) and the pictures will be uploaded to a gallery which will then be posted in this thread for all of us to see.

No sponsors? Piffft! ;) And I just bought a new camera!

While I am out of the running (not that I can take a photo that would win anyways) I wana know when this goes down at the MOA so I can be there to practice with my camera :)

This is precisely the reason why.
