We've started breeding urchins recently, which has gone fairly well.

I bought some broodstock from New Wave Aquaria last month, which came in looking very healthy.
We induced spawning on Oct 30th, resulting in one female spawning and 4 males helping out.

We were able to harvest a large number of eggs, still in early development seen in the video below.
Video shows 20 minutes compressed into a few minutes

The following day, these eggs were now oval bodies just starting to develop a oral cavity. Urchins were already motile, swimming freely with cillia.

32 hours after spawning, the urchins are forming their first two spines.

Now, at 14 days old, these urchins are still doing well and look awesome up close.

We expect to see settlement around day 20, and we've got over 1000 of them yet.

Making improvements to our culture methods. Reduced larval time from 22 days, down to 8 days.

    Here's a spawning female:

Then about 8 days later, we have freshly settled urchins!

I'll be working on an effective grow out method, but could expect these to start hitting the local stores in about 3 months.

I would like to dub that one "lunar lander".

    Thanks for sharing Chad!
