Blue Tuxedo Urchin, Mespilia globulus breeding thread

    We've started breeding urchins recently, which has gone fairly well.

    I bought some broodstock from New Wave Aquaria last month, which came in looking very healthy.
    We induced spawning on Oct 30th, resulting in one female spawning and 4 males helping out.

    We were able to harvest a large number of eggs, still in early development seen in the video below.
    Video shows 20 minutes compressed into a few minutes


    The following day, these eggs were now oval bodies just starting to develop a oral cavity. Urchins were already motile, swimming freely with cillia.


    32 hours after spawning, the urchins are forming their first two spines.


    Now, at 14 days old, these urchins are still doing well and look awesome up close.


    We expect to see settlement around day 20, and we've got over 1000 of them yet.

    Thanks Chad, that is amazing. I like the adult urchins, great looking blue color
