    TCMAS Weekly Discussion

We would like to get more reef related discussions going on the forum. We will post a weekly topic to get the discussion started then let you all take it from there. The rules are simple, keep on topic and keep it positive.

    This weeks topic: Frag Tanks
Are you running a frag tank? Describe the set up and discuss any plans you have with the frags.

Also, feel free to post an idea for future topics as well.

Just updated my build thread, but here's my up-and-coming frag system.

Left side will be SPS and right will be LPS/Z&P.

I'm a coral hoarder who loves to share! If I have it and you want it, it will be fragged.

*** I can't wait to be considered for hosting a meeting or two.

I ran 2x 4'x2' frag tanks. (One was zoas and the other sps)
It was fun for a bit, having room for all the frags, but never really turned profitable. It was a money loss, no matter how many frags I had. It was fun and nice to have that flexibility to make frags and not have a rack stuck to the glass. Or to move fish into or whatever. But I would caution anyone who thinks it may be a money maker. But then again, this is a hobby and not a business. Have fun.
(Secretly wishing I had one now actually)

Do you guys have any tips/tricks for dealing with evaporation vs ATO with a frag tank. Most of them are open top and have a large surface area for water evaporation. I'll be putting a 20g long in a separate location from my display and just trying to think of good options for when we are gone for more than a day or two at a time - or if I just need to cough up another $100 and buy a separate ATO for the frag tank.

I ended up just biting the bullet and getting another ATO. It only takes a few frag losses to justify it.
