What is up with my Duncan coral? It’s been closed up/completely retracted for a week now. I’m baffled as to why. Chemistry is spot on, all my other corals are happy (including SPS), and I can find nothing irritating it. There has been no changes in lighting. And, it doesn’t seem to be dying. There is no slime, brown jelly, or tissue recession.

    Any ideas?

My guess would be flow, I had to move my Duncan colony around about 10 times before it was happy and stayed open in my tank. Is it next to a power head?

It’s been in the same place for over a year. I’ll move it to a lower flow area to give it a rest.

Did moving it work for u? If it extends at all feed it. Nothing to large and after lights out so fish don't steel the food. This worked for me
when I first introduced my current duncan and has been great since. Why after a year or so it closes sorry but not sure.

Good idea, I’ll try feeding it tonight. It did slightly open yesterday.

Is there any chance it is getting bothered by unseen pests?
My duncan colonies would close up if any vermitid snails had attached to the colony; or were nearby. The coral doesn't care for the mucus nets that the snails cast out and would close up until the pests were taken care of.

As an aside... my duncans don't mind greater water flow. I have three colonies that are located in the center of a chasm that receives the bulk of the random flow and the corals are expanded quite well. My pair of clownfish use the corals as a host and the corals are not bothered by the constant touching of the fish.

I’ll pull it out today to inspect it, Jason.
