    What kind of cichlids?

Aqualand on Chicago Ave. in Minneapolis, World of Fish in Bloomington (kind of spendy, though) and Forest Lake Pets (in the northern suburbs).

World of Fish is probably going to have the best Cichlid selection.

Best selection will be forest lake, no contest but they are a longer drive.

You didn't specify old world cichlids or new world cichlids...
I would recommend in order best to worst forest lake, underwater dreams, World of fish, sea level (their selection is not what it used to be), aqualand, aquatropics(I don't like this store so haven't been there for a while).

North African. Pretty sure all I have left in my tank is a electric yellow, and six peacocks

Forest Lake Pets is worth the trip just to see the place. Lots of cool things at that shop.

I don't get out to shops much, but the few times I've been to Aqualand I've been impressed by the variety and especially the health of the freshwater fish there. No shop will be able to achieve a situation where all their fish are in great shape at all times, but it seems a lot of the fish at Aqualand seemed particularly well settled in and behaving a lot like well-adjusted fish would behave in a home aquarium (e.g. really excited about the prospect of being fed, etc). And the last I was there (some years ago now), they had a really big mata mata turtle that they had had there for many years!

They do still have that awesome Mata Mata turtle.

My list was only ordered by available selection of cichlids(primarily African) per store. I tend to hit most of them at least a couple times a month for the last several years.

So I read this and had to go see Forest Lake Pets since I had never been there and had never even heard of it. It was definitely worth seeing. They have a ton of tanks. I was like a kid in a candy shop when I saw the huge back room full of fish. I couldn't leave without buying a frag of coral.......BUT, come on, I feel that World of Fish is by far a better quality shop. I know this was about fresh water, but I just have to say if your looking for anything salty, you should probably skip Forest Lake Pets. My favorite is, hands down , New Wave Aquaria in Plymouth.
