My heater just exploded. Got a nice shock pulling it out of the tank. Does anyone have a heater I can borrow until I get paid on the 17th. Its for a 30g. I live in IGH so if you were close by that would be appreciated.

wait.. it exploded while in water???? this would mean the problem from the stealth has NOT been fixed in the visa-therm.

Glad I went for credit over replacements.

Mine was not a stealth. It was a just a regular Marineland Visatherm. I heard a cracking noise and I thought the seams were breaking on my tank. I I ran over and started looking at the seams and they were fine, then I noticed bubbles coming from the heater. There was a tiny crack in it. All of a sudden the bottom off the heater shot off and my clownfish went into spasms. Without thinking I just ripped the heater out off the tank, got one heck of a nice shock. Then unplugged and threw away that piece of junk.

I have a stealth that I never returned, but took it out of my 55 gallon fresh water when they recalled them. Can anyone recommend a brand that does not have constant quality control issues? I am never buying a Marineland product ever again.

I personally use Jagers only. In my experience, titanium hasn't been any better or more reliable. While it wouldn't make any difference for shattering but all heaters should be used in conjunction with a separate temp controller. Only marineland product I've ever though was good is the Maxi jets powerheads.

Jager heaters are the best! I have one that works like new for 8 years..

That is the only reason and only heater I sell in my store. :beerchug:

Just tossed a visi-therm from a tank move yesterday. There was water in it. Looks like more issues for marineland.

My guess is they are < 500W.

500W and up seem to prematurely fail quite often. Mine lasted less then 3 months. The smaller wattage 300w or less seem to be okay.

It may have been a fluke since it's been 6 months now and no one else has had bad visi-therms. I have had heaters that were dropped before do exactly what you described. It was most likely due to a small crack that allowed water to enter. The crack could have happened during shipping or packaging.
