So I just got super lucky. I am downstairs working on my sump and the hose pops off my ATS pump. Water shooting straight up about 2 feet. Now about 30 seconds earlier I was messing around in that chamber so I might have bumped it.

However it also led me to think why on earth do I have that pump pointing up when it will work just as well pointing sideways. Now if the hose comes off there would be no issues. How many of you have pumps pointing straight up?[IMG]

Good thing you were there - you got lucky! I take it there was nothing holding the tube to the pump? Running sideways is a good idea.

I have my pumps pointing straight up, but I'm hard plumbed. I hard plumb whenever I can, but in the event I use tubing on something, I make sure it's secured with at least a zip tie or two if a clamp won't work.

I also have mine like Riley, I have a zip tie on as tight as I could get it.

I had a zip tie on it. That was on the bottom of the sump chamber.

Yeah I recommend the plastic hose clamps. TLF sells a multi size pack. Overpriced but worth it for assurance.

Pointed up - on soft hose connections I use metal hose clamps (after a short length of hard plumbing so the connections/clamps are not submerged). Yes they rust but they are far more secure than the plastic clamps. Pure Iron rust is not a concern - the only concern would be trace amounts of other metals in the alloy. I have never noticed any ill effects from the rust.
