I had to move a powerhead today to try and fix my poor flow. (i hate algae:mad_3 I have a 75g and that is a Koralia 1 pointing down on my starburst. I know thay like flow but do you guys think that is to much on it ?

i would say that directing it is ok. But what is your overall flow in your tank. How many powerheads do you have? A korlia 1 is very small for a 75 unless you are doing what you say with direct flow. So what about the rest of the tank. Whats your return pump. This may help with the algae. How established is your tank?

In my 75 I have a K2 on one end and a K3 on the other and am in need of more flow yet. I'm thinking I'll add a K4 on the K2 side to help. The more flow the better, so long as it doesn't create a sandstorm.

I set my tank up back in june. I know i need more korlia's I like to put 2 more in there. My return pump is a Quietone 3000. I need to replump this i killed my flow from it with the 4 90's i put in it( cant find that website now ) my flow is like 440 with the bad plumbing job i did. I do use cheto in my sump just picked that up the other day. skimmer is coralife 125 . My tank is looking good just that damn algae. I do use ro water. Fish and corals look good.

OH yeah and welcome. I also use the quiet one 3000. i go straight up and over the top. I use 3 korlia 4s and that seems to be perfect. One on each end without the direction cap and one with the flow cap directly behind the rock work. the algae could be related to alot of things. I would suggest setting yourself up with a DI canister to eliminate to water as a concern. Second address how much you feed. (something i still struggle with). whats your phosphate and nitrate levels. Definately up the flow in your system. maybe reduce your lighting schedule by an hour for the winter. and address your clean up crew. Remember to be patient and dont give up. You will win this battle.

I need to add to that i just set up new lights about 2 weeks ago t5nova extreme pro 6x 54w. Im sure this has alot to do with it to. I run the blues for 8hrs and the 10k for 7 hrs a day

Welcome to TCMAS. I moved this thread to the softy forum since star polyps are a softy. Are you trying to solve your algae with aiming the power head at it? If so that won't make much of a difference. Algae problems almost always stem from nutrient excesses. More flow does help in that it keeps ditritus suspended so the skimmer has a chance to remove it.

Yes im trying to solve my hair algae and i did not wana kill my star polyp with to much flow. My skimmer is running like nuts right now the skimmate was green its now black, and the cup fills up in 3-4 days
