The mature corallites on this chalice appear to form little raised mounds like that; it's not on a "rock" so to speak. That's all skeleton below.

I actually posted a couple fts in my zoa eye candy thread. Can't remember what page. It's a little old now, couple months, but gives some idea I guess. Right now it's just a jumbled mess of cramped coral. It's not ideal and not my final arrangement, but for now it's workin'. I just can't stop grabbing up new eye candy.
