I just setup a 20gal BioCube for my best friend. So far she has planned a mated pair of Oscellaris Clowns, Coral Beauty Angel (which I have in quarantine) and a few other possibilities. My question is...what sort of goby/blenny would be appropriate for that small tank? I only have experience with my Diamond Watchman Goby in my 75 Gal reef. I know that he needs lots of sand to sift around or he may starve.

Wutcha think? I think for her purposes...the brighter the color the better...

also like the midas blenny.
frank (mine) is fun, has personality and doesn't hide out. when i walk up to the tank he comes over too.

Be sure to have a top on your tank. I bought a Midas Blenny, and he jumped through my screen top the first night. It's a shame that he made the journey across the entire world just to die on my floor. That's one of the things I HATE in this hobby. But i'm done ranting :p

This would go in a bio cube with a sealed top....prolly worst that can happen is a jump into the overflow lol. Anyone had trouble with a Midas picking on clams or LPS? From what I read, if they are well fed they leave most things alone.

Both midas and starry blennys get kind of big, don't they? Is this a 28 gallon or 14 gallon biocube? I don't know of a 20 gal. model...

I have a sleeper blue spot goby in my 14 gallon, but with the knowledge that I'll have to get rid of it when he gets too big... also, you gotta feed them 2-3 times a day in a smaller tank. It also sounds like the coral beauty angels will nip coral sometimes , and I think i've heard that happens more often in a small tank (if that's something she's planning on having) , and live aquaria also rates those for 30+ gallons. Another thing to keep in mind is that (i guess depending on which tank you're talking about) 2-3 fish is generally the max for a biocube (i have 4 which is kind of pushing my bioload I think) . I don't know how experienced your friend is, but maybe that many fish would be a bad idea to start with if the tank isn't established.

Having said that, I tend to break most of the rules in this hobby and havent run into too much trouble yet.

Typo...29 Gallon sorry :) Yea I was looking at the size on the Midas thinking that might get too big for the tank. Also, the fish are in QT at my house. We have only officially decided to put the clown pair in. Not sure about the angel yet as I am concerned about tank size as well and limit on stock selections. I have had her patiently waiting as the tank has sat with LR in for the last month. Clowns go in tomorrow. We'll see...she has very little experience and I am really starting her at basics and moving forward.

ah, alright, yeah, I kind of went through the same thing when looking for some sort of goby for my tank. All the cool ones get big... I just bought one that fits my tank and figured I'd see how it goes. So far so good though

Green banded goby, lots of personality, stay small enough for that tank, good color.

ooh I want a yasha! Also want a shrimp with that too--appears I can't get that combo locally They look like they have an amazing "personality"

I got my yasha and shrimp from SWE.

They weren't paired beforehand, but found each other within 12 hours in my 120.

Same here. Same LFS and same circumstance.

Don't see mine much, he is coming out to eat now though. He and the shrimp have one heck of a cave in a rock.
