Marineland 150Gal DD starphyre front, for real this time...... (1 Viewer)

i have been told im a slow tank setter upper

i got water and sand in! does anyone know how to get the anti syphon on the the megaflow return not to spew out water and splash everywhere?

you could glue in some rigid air line tubing to get it closer to the water for less noise. The one at the store is loud too but its not as noticeable at the store.

been running with live sand for 9 days now. i'm going to add the rock this week and then wait a week or two and then get a pair of clowns in there to kick start the cycle.

im so excited! i don't plan on testing the water because i will be moving SUPER slow. i wont add anything alive other then some clowns and a CUC untill almost begining of feb. that should be plenty of time to cycle, i'll keep an eye on the alge to let me know if there is any issues. if so i'll test.

wanting to move slow is also why i will not be opening any thread by zack (nanofins) untill i'm ready to buy.

I do something similar to what Jason suggests.

I drill a hole in the return line and thread in one of these(wrap threads in teflon tape):
or
Then just attach a short piece of 1/4" RO tube(black) and run it back into the overflow just below the water line.

When the return pump stops, the overflow water level drops and the RO tube sucks in air breaking the siphon very quickly.

This works really well because the first place the water drops when return pump stops is in the overflow and being much smaller area it drops really fast compared to the water level in the tank so you get much less water draining into the sump which has many benefits.
-smaller sump capacity needed
-less time for sump level to return to normal after return kicks on
-constant flow keeps it free of restrictions/less likely to get snail over it
-easy to replace tube or cap/plug later if needed

I siliconed in a piece of rigid air line tubing and that did the trick. if i can just get this stupid controller working i would be happy.

lol, not yet, i need to get a few more bags of sand and do the rocks. i plan on doing that after the semester.

FLIPPIN FINALLY!!! i got the stupid controller working. I got a 500w finnix titanium tube and a 500w finnix titanium with its own controller.

I set the one with the controller on the RKE i set the finnix controller to 77 degrees and then the channel that its hooked to to 75. i set the back up tube to 75. the tank is now holding at 75.6
next stop CUC!!! i'm hoping to have a pair of flame wrasses and a pair of leapord wrasses in the tank by the 15th.

got the CUC today from reeftopia, i got 2 fighting conchs and these things are HUGE!
as soon as i get some fish and corals which should be this week i'll post pics.

wait so after almost 2 yrs your ready for fish?

my nickname growing up was "el mucho rapido"

also keep in mind i moved this summer so i had to hold off on setting it up :mad_3:

does anyone know if the 150DD is too small for two fighting conches? i did not expect them to be this big.

Wouldn't recommend self painting. Ive tried this with $120 per gallon epoxy paint and it doesn't hold up as well as powder coating. Additionally for added protection you can pay more for a zinc undercoating under the powder coating if that makes any sense and lastly sandblasting pre powder coating is MUST or RUST will happen sooner than later.
