So I am about to start moving things around, and I am thinking that on the spot by the TV I lose viewing area from one of the side panels...

Yesterday I went to the HD and picked the supplies I needed to paint the back of the tank. also there is a megaflow(sp) kit in the overflow and the return plumbing.

I am hoping to fill the tank soon, but I will have to make a few trips to the LFS to get the water. I don't often mix my own salt water, so I can't really justify the purchase of a a 5gal bucket of salt.

The sump holds water, its what I believe to be 20 gallons (30x12x12). My noob question now is on one side I will have the return pump an on the other the heater and skimmer. Should I add rubble/sand on the side I will have the heater and skimmer?

How much silicone did u use? A gallon? :gay1:

I wouldn't put any rocks/rubble in there if u have a good amount of live rock in ur dt. That way u can keep ur sump squeeky clean.

I didn't realize how poor a job of siliconing I did until this picture...thats just embarassing Rafa!

Tank is looking great!

I agree. You want something that when you do a water change you can shut the sump down, remove the equiptment, and scrub the sump out to get rid of everything. That is what I did on my new setup and I am glad I did. the sump is a 40B that holds about 25g of water the way I have it baffled. I just take out the return pump and the skimmer and empty all the water out. then scrub it down and rinse and then put the stuff back in and it looks like new.

Should have used clear silicone. It wouldn't have looked as bad. But hey, as long as it holds water is what matters.

Its all good man, the baffles are still in place and thats what matters. Do you remember what is the bulb combination in the canopy?

Heheh yeah shy of a gallon ;) I heard that is good to have the rubble in there to keep the pod population, but if the rubble is on the skimmer side wont the pods get all sucked and skimmed up?

I am a noob when it comes to the whole sump thing. What kind of maintenance you do?

How often you clean your sump?

That's the whole point Rafa, i rarely clean my sump because i don't have a fuge or any rubble in there. I also have a small powerhead in there so nothing settles.

How often you clean your sump?

Every 6 weeks or so. I do weekly water changes and gravel vac out the water normally. If the tank is not in need of a gravel vac I clean out the sump.

New tank hass been up for two weeks now. I was planning on going with a tek 6 bulb light. After seeing the whole thing, I think I will build a new canopy to match the stand.

Corals are also doing great. Do anyone know what this guy is called?

Candy apples are growing well along with the starry nights.

Thank you guys, I am thinking that is my favest coral at the moment :)

Looking great. That tank fits your livng room very nicely. I know was one of the things you were going for.

Great job Rafa! I love what you have come up with! I would second your idea of building a custom canopy. Looks like you have the woodworking figured out

For some reason, my candy apples, and sunny D's and a large colony of AOGs dramatically regressed. Polyps weren't opening and growth stopped. Al parameters are in check, no changes on anything and the other zoas are doing great.

I added my first chalice last week, lasted 24hrs :swear: I went and bought another one and a meteor cyphastrea they are both doing fantastic :)

On my to-do list is to add an extra baffle to the sump to diminish micro bubbles, or buy a plexi sump. Still looking for a new used skimmer, the reef octopus sss 1000.

Project Giana is doing great too. The subject has learned to spit.

And for those who followed the whole ceiling fan deal, I successfully took the fan down and put the new fixture up. The wife loves the new look. I am afraid I opened a pandoras box, cause now it seems the dining table don't match.
