Dude your led rox. :fish:

There's still some work to be done... first thing after returning from vacation I noticed some of the LEDs are always on, they dim according totime of the day but remain on all the time... dont have the troubleshooting skills to find out whats happening.... :bawling: there is no damaga yet and I guess thats because the LEDs are at a max of 30-50% only at half the pwm signal from a meanwell..very close to the drivers cutoff.

also now the family is back and its warm outside so progress will be in hiccups lol and there's tank priorities.. the fuge is now practically empty.. last night I had to take the skimmer offline.

Finally got into the browsing mode to take a break from a hectic day... a few minutes before I run off to the next thing lol

Since LEDs is the hot topic, I figured I'll take a deeper dive..... on the www :look:

found this on another reefing site... interesting data/reading for anyone who wants to know more about LEDs... amusingly I ended up there searching for planted tank + LED light while I plan for my list of likely summer projects

That last pic really shows off the growth pattern of that acro. Sweet piece. Everything looks great.

Its a purple Valida.. the taller growth in background is from before, all the "new" growth is under the new LED setup from the last 3-4 months, my camera skills are lacking and do not capture the colors nicely.

the LEDs have been supplemented with 2 T5's for the last month... I'm not sure if the T5's add any benefit to the scheme.. but I put them on as insurance during my month long vacation... just in case the LEDs failed. The T5's will stay there to provide additional lighting until I can get the proper controller hooked up... the LEDs currently run at 25% of max power

T5 Vs LED

Found an article... posting the link here for an interesting read from the industry, from folks who have far more resources to comment intelligently on the Dollars per light source

http://lumiversal.net/upload/T5 v. LED.pdf

.... to me its not just about which light source and whether it grows corals... there's many pluses for using LED or T5's so I am unbiased and chose LEDs,

It was a fine weekend, did a 50G water change with the trusted IO salt.. plan is to switch to RC or TM salt, finally got some RODI for ATO.. the tank wasnt topped off for about a week.. luxuries of a large setup the Sg of the tank was still at 1.025.

After taking down the fuge after the issues with overflow I mentioned previously.. the tank is now a hairy mess; its a two tone mess... the sump is purple HA and the display is green HA.

The basement setup re-org is moving along at a snails pace... made some progress.. the old fashined way, yup used masking tape :agree:

I had picked up a used tank from CL more than a few months ago for another project.. since that project hasnt happened yet I repurposed it for this. The glass is a little chipped in a few spots, but thats ok, for the dims stress is not a concern. if i notice any bowing I will add bracing. tank dims 60" x 24" x 12"

Drilled two holes for 1.5" bulk heads, one will drain to the ATS and the other will be an emergency. I will continue to use the skimmer until the ATS proves its worth,.. I feed my tank quite a bit. Also I do not trust the ATS to "rescue" the tank in the event of coral misbehaviour. the skimmer will be in the setup but will be taken online/offline based on my travel requirements.

drilled two more holes, I have plans for these... to follow

All in all a good 7-8 hours taking the old tank apart, putting the new one together; now to sharpen my acrylic skills

Hobbyists have seen this extreme acro behaviour under LED lighting; the acros turn black... IME some do, but color back up nicely. I got the chance to take pictures of this one to show the progression. the acro was browned out to start with and the time lapse between the first and last pic is about 45 days
