Hi all,

This is my first post. I moved to the Minneapolis area about a year ago. I just came across this forum, and thought I would join. During my move I made the great decision to upgrade my tank! I had a 29 gallon setup before, and I made great progress learning how to get my first corals to grow. Things were going good, in other words nothing was dying. I settled on a 90 gallon reef ready tank after some research. I wish I would have done a 120, and should have because bigger is always better! :agree:

The new tank has been running since April of last year, and I am getting great growth this time! The few corals I had in my 29 gallon made the trip out here from Michigan, with no casualties. I have since added 11 new specimens. I will give a brief descriptions of my first setup, and what I have now:

The 29 Gallon had:
20 Gallon sump
1 filter sock
Mag Drive 5 for the return pump
Coralife Super Skimmer 65
Hang on the back overflow
Aquatic life 4 bulb T5-HO light
2 Hydro Nano 240 powerheads

The new 90 Gallon:
30 Gallon Long sump
2 filter socks
Ecotech Vectra M1 for the return pump
NYOS 160 Skimmer
1 Ecotech MP40QD
2 AI Hydra 52 lights

I will upload some photos tomorrow. Thanks for reading!

Nice to "meet" you!

Looking forward to photos.

Welcome to the club! After a couple weeks around here you'll be like family. Just so you know, there is a dude around here named Marty who is like the crazy uncle in the family. ;)

After a while, if you feel ambitious, there is an area on TCMAS to post product reviews, and a review of that Vectra pump would be pretty interesting.

Welcome to the club!
You'll find a lot of helpful people in this group.
And as you've noticed already, many of us enjoy seeing pics!

Thanks for all the welcomes!

Here are a couple pictures of my old 29 gallon:

These should be in order. There is a couple pictures of when I just and a hang on the back filter running the tank. Also the last couple show the tank with an upgraded sump, and the Coralife skimmer. Ill make another post with the new setup.

So before I upgraded to the NYOS skimmer, and the Vectra pump, I had an Eheim 1262 for a return pump. I also had a Reef Octopus 150INT skimmer. Here are some of the pictures of when I was setting it up:

Here are a few photos before the bad episode of marine velvet. I even QT'd all the fish for 6 weeks. I lost all of the fish in the second photo due to it. I tried to medicate in a QT with no success. The hardest was the pair of clowns. I had them for about 4 years.

After the passing of the fish I left the tank fallow for 11 weeks. I picked up these little guys about 6 weeks in. They seem to be doing great!

Here it is just a few days ago. You can see it at the top of the rock:

Back when I had my 29 I was given a 2 head frag of frog spawn. I went though a brown jelly death, and just out of being lazy I left the skeleton in the tank. ( that and it looked cool)

After a few weeks it started to grow a few tiny little heads. Here is a picture of it, you can see the tiny little green dots on the skeleton:

Here is a photo a few months later:

This is what it looks like now:

Let me know if you ever frag that leather on the left side :D

Are you looking for a piece of the Green "bali" sinularia or the toadstool? I have another larger toadstool on the back right side here is a photo of it, along with my new yellow tang:

I might be willing to part with the smaller one for the right trade :beerchug:
