No rims here--60g DBP (1 Viewer)

I really enjoyed reading your build thread. Not sure how I missed it before when you got started. I have the same DBP tank that I'm using as a frag tank. Yours is very clean looking with the lights and metal stand. Pretty resourceful idea using a TV mount for the lights.

Thanks! The TV mount light holder had a few purposes in mind. I thought I would want to raise and lower it but with the short tank it hasn't been an issue. I had a light holder built for my last tank that was stationary. The problem I had with that is it was secured to the back of the stand so I would I have to drain and move everything to get it out if I wanted to change things.

The main reason I went with the TV mount was that I could get away with mounting it on the wall, if the owners of the condo were to question it. I'm able to say you told me I could mount tv's.

It's pretty slick though, especially if you do want to raise and lower the lights. I'll be skinning the front and the light holder soon. I think that will help with the clean look even more.

Acclimating a replacement clown while watching Victoria Secret Fashion show. Not a bad Tuesday

Don't forget about the fish...

I probably shouldn't admit this but I haven't tested since setting up the new tank. I am dosing BRS two part. I have my bottles next to the sump and I just give them each a few squirts here and there. Things have looked great so I have just continued this. I did test, calculate, and measure back on my old tank but never got it down to "what i need per day".

Instant Ocean Reef Crystals (water change 5 gallons per week)
Testing last night 12 A.M.

dKH - 8.9-9.3 using salifert kit
Ca - 440-450 using salifert kit
Ph - 8.0 using API kit but lost card so going off google image (obviously not ideal)

I'm going to wait a week without adding anything, see where I'm at and hopefully get on a regular schedule and then maybe get dosers. Since Brent was having such large fluctuations and I was contemplating dosers I figured it was time to start testing.

Let me know what you figure out. I'm thinking things just fluctuate in a day to day usage and testing weekly and averaging the dosing out might be the way to go.

To dial in my dosers or dosing regime I usually do daily test for one week. After each test I dose to get the desired level. Repeat this daily and write down how much you dose. After a week you know pretty well what amounts you have to dose.
Once you start adding a lot of coral you might need adjustment

Exactly how I do it also.
And I also test before and after doing water changes; depending on the levels of the new saltwater it may affect the dosing schedule.

How can something that sounds so simple be so confusing. I did multiple tests some nights just cause it didn't make sense!

All done around midnight. Haven't dosed since.

I might take a sample into SWE tomorrow just for a 2nd opinion. Can Alk rise without dosing?

Water change would raise it usually with reef crystals. Also, watch how you rinse your test vials. If you are washing them with hard water and then using them without flushing tank water thru them a few times, it could be that. I know when I test with my Hanna vials, I fill them with tank water at least 2-3 times and dump them out before I add my sample.

Was trying to get a picture of my angel to sell him. Accidentally did a gif. Wanted to see if it worked on here

It does, pretty cool! How come you are selling the flame? Brings a nice pop of color to the tank!

Picked up a maxi this weekend. Left it in the sump for a few days with some rubble. Checked today and it was attached. Only took the sexy shrimps 30 min to find it.

I'm really starting to dig the maxis. Just got 2 for our 60g cube. Yours is looking great!

Had another bacterial bloom last week so ordered a 13w UV sterilizer. Plugged it in this afternoon as tank looked a little cloudy this morning. Already see a difference. How long should I run this?

Big thanks to James for stopping over and doing some IT work on my Apex. Got it updated and added an EB8 that I've had for a while. Nice to have so many outlets. Didn't know it included the amp meter, is there anyway to get the reading from my Apex Jr head unit?

Crappy cell videos but caught some brittle stars doing their thing. Didn't even know I had most of these in here.
