thumbnail.jpg Just hit the 5 year anniversary for my 100 gallon. One of the things that has surprised me the most after 5 years is the life of the equipment I have. In the last 5 years Ive only had 2 pieces of equipment fail, which is amazing considering there is 20+ things currently plugged into this tank. The two failures have been a JBJ ATO unit and the main "brain" unit for the apex classic (which sucked to have to replace). I celebrated its 5 year anniversary with a Neptune Trident. So far Ive been very happy with the trident. Ive had two kids since the tank has been started, the automatic water changes from the DOS and the trident have been the biggest helpers ive bought, saves tons of time! thumbnail (1).jpg

Although it’s isn’t guaranteed that just because a certain piece of equipment lasted 5 years for you it won’t fail in 1 for another, I still feel it would be beneficial for you to list the equipment that’s been solid for you all these years (ie return pump, skimmer, lights, etc). Also what your maintenance schedule was like for these (if any)

    great looking tank btw :)

My alk swings are averaged around 9.6 on the high side and 9.3 on the low side, although it looks like i may miss the lowest part of the swing because of when the tests are done. Ive been thinking about trying to smooth them out through when I dose but im afraid to screw up the status quo.

As far as equipment goes, my work horses that ive had since the beginning are my return pump, a sicce syncra silent 4.0 pump, and my reef octopus classic 150 skimmer. I try and clean then every spring and fall, along with my MJ1200 reactor pump. I have 2 kessil A360W Es that have been on the tank for 4.5 years, ive only recently taken them apart to clean (they were filthy!). And I have a finnex titianum heater controlled by the apex that ive never had an issue with for all 5 years. The Kessils are backed up by an Aruba Sun VT5HO T5 unit with 2 bulbs.

Do you use a DOS to dose, and if so - have you turned your dosing over to it yet?
