I just ordered a small colony of Oregon Tort and was wondering what the recommended lighting level would be to keep the most blue. I have an ati 4 bulb fixture on a 40 breeder. My cali tort seems to like it higher up in the tank. Opinons??

The more light the better. I have mine baking under a metal halide, and it loves the light.

@abhishek is positively glowing blue... Lower K rated halides and t5 if memory serves.

Yeah it never looked the same under T5s only or radiums. But if you ever have the opportunity to put an OT under immense flow with lower kelvin lights in the 10-14K , its glowing blue such that you can spot it from another room .

It definitely looks great under T5s , no doubt about that but 10K halides make it jump out of water .

Among all the halide bulbs I have ever tested, Reeflux 10K(400 watt) , Ushio 14K (400 watt) and XM 10K (250 watt) are best in glowing an OT in order of preference .

T5s, Radiums , Hamilton 20K , Giessemann 14K and 17.5K - all makes it look good but not epic .
