I have been debating trying to start fragging some corals but I have never done much more than a couple of zoanthids. Thought it might be an interesting topic for many of you that do this on a regular basis to share some tips and tricks.

I am sure this can be done in many ways but any suggestions on tools, equipment or process would be welcome. I know different types of corals are done differently. I am sure I could research specific corals and get an answer on how, but I thought hearing from other members might be fun.

If anyone is bold enough to share a failure on how not to frag that could be interesting knowledge as well.

I’ve always struggled with fragging anything soft when needing to mount the frag. I just started using the frag cups and putting the frag and a rubble or plug inside and then cover with mesh until the softy mounts on its own. Sps is I think the easiest. Cut, glue, repeat. Lol I like the brs super glue, never had luck with epoxy. Larger mother colonies seem to frag easiest with a band saw. For tools I’ve always purchased and used the brs frag tool kits.

For softies like toadstools etc, cut with exacto knife, skewer with toothpick. Glue toothpick to frag plug, within a week or 2 the softie grows and attaches itself to frag plug

So are you suppose to just glue zoanthids. I found it takes a long time for them to start growing but when they start to grow, it grows fast.

For a leather and xenia I was able to clamp the base between two rocks and rubber binder them. After a week or so it will attach to at least one rock.

That is the extent of my fragging history. Tore a green hairy mushrooms in half moving a rock once. Both haves survived but not exactly fragging.

I see that there are not a lot of responses so I add in my 2 cents here. My tools for fragging are simple and cheap. I bought the blades from Menards, the pruning shear and the supper glue gel from Dollar Tree. My fragging technique is simple also. Last time, I dropped the whole Space Invader pectinia colony on its face on my tile floor and I made frags out of whatever got broken. I ended up with a lot of frags!!! 🤣🤣

Have a great Memorial Day weekend, everyone!
