I'm actually almost done with this build. But I will start at the beginning; I have pictures from along the journey.

It started with the dry live rock. My daughter helped work on on the formation. Of course, we couldn't reproduce it exactly in the tank despite the many photos we took. But we like the end result in the tank better anyway.

After the frame, I worked on the surround. I wanted the ability to remove the entire surround when I need to do certain types of tasks like remove the sump or work on the plumbing. Everyday tasks will be done through the door in the surround.

Using a 40 gal. breeder, I did a DIY sump using silicone on the glass baffles. It was the largest sump I could fit under the stand. Water testing went well. Although I redid the last baffle to tilt slightly backwards to eliminate the waterfall sound.

System assembled and filled with water. Dr Tim's & ammonia to start and maintain the cycle. Four months cycling with the lights out. I used dry rock: brs reefer saver and dry aragonite sand. No pests here. I will be quarantining everything before it goes into this tank. Big water change at the end.

Osc. clown pair in quarantine. A different QT from the coral as they will go through prazi & copper treatment. Poor guys spent the first two days combing the bottom looking for their nem.

End product: Poly on everything & door installed.

Next step is to install the fan in the sump & the fuge lighting.

Four month cycle?? I think this makes you the most patient reefer ever in the history of reefing! Good on you. Your patience will certainly serve you well with this build. Everything looks great. Keep the updates coming.

Wow! Chaeto is crazy effective. I picked up some chaeto from @DarkSky. Nitrate has dropped by 4 ppm each week the last two weeks. I can't seem to get a phosphate reading. I'm reducing fuge photo period and increasing feeding and still nothing. I'm considering dosing sodium phosphate.
