    Now what do I do?

He is still alive. He was attached good. I spent 20min very slowly massaging his foot to get him lose like that. Then spent another 20min very slowly and carefully trying to remove him. He will not come out. I ran out of time and had to get to work. He was doing great yesterday securely attached to my rock and open wide in the light. I got this rainbow bta at the expo.

When you get home, turn off your return pump for awhile, and either put a bag of ice next to its foot, or aim a power head at it. Hopefully it'll release and you can move it.

Best case is you pissed it off enough this morning it'll have moved on its own.

Sounds like some of have had this happen before?
I have an Apex, do I can shut it off from work. I'll use my water change feed button to shut it off for 40 min. If it is still there when I get home I'll shut it off for longer.

Worst case scenario, you can cut out one of the teeth in your overflow to free the nem. Then glue/silicone it back into place if you want.

As long as your circulation pump are going the return can be off for a couple hours no problem.

Watch your temp if you shut off the return too long (assuming your heater is in the sump).

Well, I got home and the worst case. There is no Trace of him in the display tank. I checked the slot of the overflow with a flash light. Nothing. I checked the sump. There it was in a dozen pieces.
I vacuumed it up. Did a water change. Will be adding new carbon to my reactor shortly and testing my parameters now and for the next week. I have searched all over for any bits.

    Poor guy. I feel rotten.

I have clowns in QT that were hosting a nem at the store. The nem was pretty small and didn't look to be in the best shape, so I didn't get that one. I was very happy with the one I got at the swap. Good size, beautiful, and decent size.

I get paranoid about this myself. When I first joined the hobby, I had a nem get caught up in a powerhead.
I took the power head off the wall and left It in the sand.
It crawled out and was fine on it's own after day but ever since then, I have sponges on everything.

Powerheads, behind return. You name it, I am paranoid.

    Sorry Chris

Thanks @acarpenter. I had polyfil batting wrapped around the powerhead with rubberbands holding it on. What do I do about an overflow? I kind of need the overflow.

Cut sponge fitting to fit and secure to overflow.

Or, do a closed loop system on the 220 you are going to set up ha

My Nem moved around constantly until the clown started hosting it. It has not moved off the rock it is on since. If you get another Nem I suggest putting it in your QT with a small rock it can attach to until the clowns host it. Once that happens and you are comfortable with adding them to the tank put the entire rock with the Nem on it in a med flow area. Hopefully it will stay put then. I think this Nem actually finding the overflow and the final outcome is not very common. Do not be scared or discouraged to get another. The symbiotic relationship they share is very cool to watch.

Didn't mean to scare anyone, sorry. :) I've flirted with the idea of another in my big tank, but maybe once everything is more established. For now, no way.
