This thing has grown wonderfully for me but these past couple weeks it's been dying off. I didn't worry because it appeared to have a stopping point on have the colony... but no more.

Time to chop it up and see what lives.
I believe it's my alk being way too low as I've fought to get my CaRx online... officially started today.

well its BC Glowstick and not flashlight :)
Normally its a very hardy acro . If it were me I would cut the whole branch that STNing , glue or put epoxy on the part and see from there .
Problem is its not that alk was low but after being in a system for months with a certain alk, if alk fluctuates , sometimes they dont take it well .
Curious whats your phosphate level at the time it was STNing ? and PAR levels ?

A trick I have done all my life is to lower light levels when I know for sure am making changes in the tank especially with alk

The par on that coral is maybe 150... probably 115 though.

Nutrients are non existent but that not accurate as I feed quite a bit.

The alk fluctuations are almost certainly the root cause. Any number of other changes I've made could be contributing but that strikes me as the most obvious.

I know this will stir up a lot of debate , but personally I have never had issues with alk fluctuating in my tanks over 1 dKH only when light levels were lower and high nutrients available in water . High means like right now am low and running 0.36 phosphates .. High is when I go ver 0.50 .

My GHL Kh director shows it jumped from 7.2 t0 8.7 when I applied Frank's F- apitasia and again went down in a day or 2 when I did massive water change and up and again . Nothing actually causes STN unless am going low on nutrients available in the tank. By nutrients, I do not refer to only phosphates and nitrates but nutrition as a whole

Are you sure nothing is irritating the base? The polyps are retracted at the base in that pic compared to the branches. My experience with that tenuis is par around 250 and good flow with stable alk. By stable I mean, I don't have reactor but dose and try to keep it at +/-.3 throughout the day. Lower or higher alk is not the issue its the roller coaster alk that will eventually catch up with you. I've kept constant at NSW alk as well as higher and it seemed fine. I keep my nutrients at .05 po4 and 25 n03 but have been higher.

Regardless cut off the dead portion and watch it.

It's likely the fluctuations, my evap in our office is terribly low so my kalk reactor was failing miserably. The A/C simply isn't pulling out the humidity... even a little.

Lol, well I got a bit behind in my testing... namely my testing was based on a bunch of functions working like kalk and my AWC. Both were failing at the same time and I still didn't test.

Hmm what do you think of my alk in the last 7 days ? All I have are acros .

But of course my nutrients if you consider only nitrates and phosphates are 25-30 ppm nitrates and 0.3-0.45 phosphates .

All I did was to reduce my photo period from 13 hrs to 8 hrs

Wow that's a big increase for a simple reduction! I had lowered my temp to 77 but didn't document the change.

Fragged this up and stabilized my alk, seems to be recovering now.
