Currently using redsea trace and looking at switching to A and K mixed into my 2 part. Was wondering how much people are mixing and how they are determining that amount? And what kind of experience you’ve had? I kind of like the idea of freeing up 4 dose heads for other things.

I also run low on strontium in my tank as what I’ve learned is redsea puts their strontium into there calcium supplement and I use brs 2 part. Do people have similar experience with A and K when using a different 2 part?

I think there is a little guess and check required unfortunately. I still just do “one squirt” of A and K daily because when I started dosing them the kalk was taking care of my full alk/Ca needs. Now I’m having to supplement with 2 part (really 3 part, since I do the hybrid balling with BRS alk/ca and tropic Marin part c). I can’t decide if I should just mix in enough A and K into my 1 gallon jugs that I would get the equivalent of 1ml of the traces per day. Or what to do…so I just continue to give them the squirt from the bottle. Sooooooo, this entire message probably isn’t very helpful.

But I’d suspect you just need to start someplace and verify with a few ICPs.

For strontium, even with the A and K I have found that I’m having to do monthly catch up doses of strontium to keep it in the ~8 range. It’s pretty low effort to dose something monthly, so I guess that’s been fine for now. 🤷‍♂️

I’ll be curious if someone has a scientific answer to the “how much” question. Does Lou have recommendations?

With redsea the ratio is 1ml/53.5ml calcium if using brs two part. If using redsea foundation it’s 1ml/10ml calcium. It’s a great starting point and have found it to be pretty close for me. Was hoping there was some kind of formula for tropic Marin as I don’t like just picking a number from the sky to start with. lol. I have no problem doing monthly or even weekly dosing.

I add 80ml of the corresponding element to each galling of BRS 2 part on my sps heavy reef and keep stuff relatively close.

I still have to add 1-2ppm strontium/month.

I am also using Tropic Marin Part C which maintains magnesium and ionic balance.

They have a calculator on their site but it’s a bit general and high IMO.

Thanks for the info. I have been to the site and have read what they recommend, it’s just nice to hear what others have found.

At the shop we use (essentially) this mix

The instructions are towards the bottom.

I use the 'medium demand' recommendation when mixing my jugs which is 160ml A/K per gallon of alk/calc. Along with the part C trace mix dosed 1:1 with alkalinity.

Whenever we do ICP tests our results are spot on :)
