I have a small Fiji Cube 10g AIO that has been running for a little over a year via only the return pump (which I upgraded to the AI Axis 40). However, it's time to finally put some form of powerhead into the tank and I opted for an AI Nero 3. What I'm struggling with is where to place said powerhead. Obviously, the tank is small as-is and the pump will be set quite low and to a random wave mode, but do I want the powerhead opposite from the single return outlet to create a "clash" of water in the middle? Or do I want it pushing water the same direction as the return outlet to create a more circular flow pattern?

In your small tank I think you are going to find that the NERO 3 will be too much flow even at the lowest settings. (Also note that all my Nero 3's failed before they were 3 years old (the motors rusted and split the cases). FYI I just added a Hygger HG172 Lite to my Fiji 60 cube to add some additional flow and I'm very impressed, good flow and almost completely silent. Best of all it was $40 to my door. I think the Nero 3's are around $175+/- now.

Appreciate the feedback. However, at 1% setting it's only 20gph so I'm not worried about too much flow in the tank. As for longevity, I'll keep that in mind - I've had good luck with Nero's in the past and enjoy the connection with Apex. I'll certainly keep an eye on things. The purpose of my post was to gather input on location.
