Can a powder blue and a yellow tang be in the same tank??

I have a nice powder blue as soon as I go pick it up from a fellow reefer and I like the yellows too.

I don't know exactly if the powder blue and brown are behaving similar but if they do my Yellow his best friend is the powder brown..They get along great

You may want to put them in at the same time. Powders can get very territorial and aggressive, so can yellows, if you introduce them at the same time they should get along ok. The body shapes are dissimilar enough.

I have both a yellow and powder blue in my tank. They've been happy campers. Powder Blues are notorious for not handling ich as well as most fish - something to keep in mind.

I think you will be fine. However, I would HIGHLY reccomend getting at least 2 cleaner shrimp if you are going to have a powder Blue (or Brown for that matter) My Powder brown shows signs of ich every once in a while, but the two shrimp I have clean him right up.

Also, I would make sure that the UV Sterilizer you have is ready to go if needed

Completely agree, one cleaner at the very minimum. Ours take great care of our tangs. The peppermints have even done a bit of a clean up job when we had three tangs in the tank.

The UV is also a definite plus. Keep your stress level as low as possible for tangs the first week or two will help quite a bit as well. Keep their immunity up with loads of nori, add garlic to food and something like slecon helps too.

so my question is on the uv, i have a powder brown that gets ick back every other day or so, do you think the uv would help with controlling that, i've been keeping him fat to try and fight it off, with nori, garlic and others, i tried kick ick and it worked for a good week the it comes back, i also have 2 cleaners that i dont see too often, i've debated on a uv but have herd many different stories on them for the bad side. still undecided..

The more I read about Tang behaviour and putting Tangs together the more confusing it gets.
I posted my Yellow and the PBT get along great and are best friends, in other postings (not only here on TCMAS) people have big issues keeping those 2 together. Some people say their PBT is very territorial which in my case is totally the opposite and so on.
I almost start thinking keeping Tangs together is a hit or miss and there is no standard. Same with the behavior of them.

Could you agree on this or am I completely wrong with my theory?
Does not everything depends on the individual character of each fish?

Well Thanks for the info I also have a foxface in my tank now will he pose any problem? I just got my UV pump and are going to hook it up this weekend also been wanting to get some cleaner shrimp so this would be a good reason to get them!!!:beerchug:

I have a P.Brown and two yellows. The PB picks on the sailfin real bad, but leaves the yellows alone.

I think you will be rolling the dice on this one. They might get along, they might NOT get along. I have a yellow that will harass/kill any tang that I put into the tank that is smaller. I am going to add a naso in the near future but will make sure it is larger than my yellow and cross my fingers. If there was no aggression between the two fish I would be shocked.

We just took out a show Naso and a yellow tang and the yellow constantly harassed the Naso. I ended up just letting both go. Now we only have a sailfin but are going to look at a blue today.

So I should go with the PB and skip the yellow. I have the PB for sure and was thinking it would be cool to have a yellow too but don't want to chance it.

There may be other tangs you could mix it with, if your tank is large enough a sailfin is awesome. But you'd really want to put them in at the same time. Then no one has a territory and they can work out their situation.

When people say this I believe they are coming from the mind set that once you add a fish in your tank it is as permanent as the rock structure. With that said they are probably talking about a powder blue that is well establlished. Perhaps one they have had for years.

Maybe because my English is not always that good I got misunderstood here.
To clarify:
Nope.. I am not thinking this. It is just a personal observation I see in my tank which of course can be totally different for somebody else. I didn't mean to say 'Sure, go for it they will be fine' I just posted what I experienced which is probably the same for others who posted they both fight.
Nope..It is a Powder Brown and I don't have him for years. He was the last fish I introduced in the tank.

With my 2 questions:
Could you agree on this or am I completely wrong with my theory?

I don't want to defend a theory I believe in but more I am hoping to get some input from more experienced reefers here if this is possible or not.

I have a 125 gallon tank and I don't have either the PB or a tang yet. A fellow reefer has the PB in his 40g and wants it out of it so I am getting that one for sure and if I do get a yellow I would add them both at the same time.

This may work, if they are both smaller fish, it may settle in without being too aggressive. It's been suggested to me that you can run into more aggression problems when the tangs are larger. If they are smaller and introduced at the same time, they may get along just fine.

We had a 9" naso and a 6" yellow, added at the same time and they both harassed our 5" sailfin who had been living in the tank for 4 months. It all depends. Tangs are just odd. We put a raccoon butterfly in and the sailfin has been just a pill towards it. They are just starting to settle down but she still gets fidgety around the raccoon.

I think it depends very much on the fish. We had a PB and it wouldn't let another tang in the tank without harassing it to death. Lost 2 that way, finally traded the PB in. I think it's going to depend on the individual fish.

The PB I am getting is about 4-5 inches so if I do get a yellow I should try and get one about the same size?
