Ive bought several fish from Petco in the past and all were healthy,
most were healthy enough to go carpet surffing. My fault.I also purchased two clowns that eventualy mated and were great egg layers.Sold them to a wholesaler in Wisconsin for $ and two black and whites.I would try to purchase on there delivery date so that they are not in there tanks for any period of time.:goldfish:

Just look for signs of health. The petco in St. Cloud usually has some fish with Ich, but others are plenty healthy. Petco Minnetonka stands apart from the rest with their quality and selection. In general, I would care more about the individual fish in question and less about what store your at.

Usually I would stay away from buying from Petco, unless you buy from the Minnetonka Petco. I have not bought there before but I definately would if I was in that part of town. I was in there a couple months ago cause I was in the area and I though I would swing by to look. It is a great store and you could tell that they really take care of their livestock.

to be honest its hit and miss just check out the tanks if they look helthy buy em they usally do well but if they look sick or the tanks are in poor condition stay away

I have only purchased from the Minnetonka Petco. If you don't live nearby...it IS worth the drive. Not only are his prices unbeatable, you would really be amazed at what he stocks. Not just clownfish there kids...:gay1:

I'd pay extra to actually see the fish first and I ask to see if I could see them eat. LFS including Petco should have no issues with feeding request.

+1 if the fish cost more than $15 I usually ask to see them eat first, then bring them home and start power feeding them so they stay healthy through all the stress.

how about petco.com?? thats where my curiosity comes in:stupid:

My first experience with Petco.com was top notch, all fish came in healthy and stayed that way. Can't beat their prices either. Both times I've gotten fish from Live Aquaria, theres been at least one or two DOA and at least one fish that didnt get shipped and had to be sent later.

2nd experience with Petco.com sucked but that was because we got 2 ft of snow the day they were sposed to be delivered! Its all good now though.

Petco the store can be hit or miss but for the most part I say its a hit. The Apple Valley one has never done me wrong.

I don't think Petco has a central facility where they get their saltwater fish from, so each store could be ordering from a different supplier. At least that's the way it used to be. I've seen fish that look really good and fish that look really bad at Petco. I know at least a couple of the Petcos that had mediocre fish have stopped carrying saltwater in the past few years.

We have no issue with feed requests. In fact, Jason and I usually offer to do so before asked.

I've had good luck with the Petco in Roseville in the past.
The fish are usually healthy and if you ask the staff to feed them they will.

IMO every petco store varies. Some are decent with knowledgeable staff, others have staff that could not tell apart a tang from a goldfish. Others have shown a higher level of ick infested tanks.

but one thing you can almost guarantee is you can't beat the petco price match.

ORA, Quality Marine, Sustainable Aquatics, A & M... at least at our store. I'm not sure where the other stores get theirs from, nor do I know where .com fish come from.

Petco.com is a different company from the brickk and mortar stores I was told. I tried to get the store to price match a cat tree and they refused saying the petco.com is a different company. So who knows where the fish come from. The ones you listed are where 80% of all the fish come from though so likely they get them from the same places.

Every place can be different. The Petco in Fargo is HORRIBLE as their fish are always unhealthy. I have not been in that store one time where half of the tanks are "Under Observation" with ich infested fish or other diseases. I even had to stop a bad sale when a fish with lots of ich was described as having "rare spotted coloring" to a customer... VERY bad experiences there for livestock.

I have seen decent Petcos though so it all depends on where you go and what knowledge level the workers have...

Big ups to Petco Minnetonka. That store is the magnet store for the area so they get a much better variety of fish. They have good staff too.

Yeah, I was in there one day looking for a mandarin and the other guy that's working a lot (not jason) offered to try feeding them. A scooter dragonette ate some , but not the mandarin, haha.

great story, huh..
