So this "tank" all started with a 5 gal hex that my buddy talked me into changing to salt from freshwater about a year ago. Got a Pair of false perc clowns to put in there. Then i wanted an anemone and i knew a 5 wasnt enough so i got a 55gal. since then the disease has spread and the GF wants to kill me... But loves the fish :beerchug: then the 5 hex turned into a 10gal,that was home to a Bas ***** GBM Clownfish, that is now going to call a 40 Br home. and the 10 will become coral qt tank. Along side the Fish Qt tank. Kinda nice to have the lights and all for the coral qt tank all set up.
About a month ago i picked up a 40br tank and drilled it and put in an overflow. Got the stand from a buddy, and it works.... good quality but could be better looking. just painted it black to "Shadow" the age of it.
I have a 20 long that will be the sump. It is all plumbed and ready to go, just need to get acrylic from my buddys scrap pile at his work, and make the baffles. Going to have a refugium on the far side that is fed by the return pump. I know there is the debate on to have them or not but i like the visual part of it. so back off! ;) I still need to purchase a protein skimmer and am open to all suggestions and donations. Currently i am running a HOB filter skimmer till i get the sump all done up.
All the rock came out of the 10 gal that it replaced and some out of my 55 that had about 120 Lbs of rock in it. Had 80 and did some work for a buddy that paid me in rock. and not crack rocks... So 35-45 lbs of rock later i got it all stacked.
I did about a 20 gal water change on the 55 gal, and put the old water into the 40 along with the 10 gal from the 10 gal tank, along with the sand that was in it. stole some sand from my 55 also. and added 25 lbs of live sand along with it.
With the water all cleared up, i tested Ammonia and NO3 and had about 10ppm of NO3 and 0 ammonia. GOing to do a 10% water change and stick the GBM clown back in tonight. as long as NO2 isn't there later and NO3 is a little lower.
I am running 4 T5HO lights. 39Watt or something? I do have a halide with pc lights that i am trying to get the pc's to work and will probably put that on it if it works out that way.

so i have put off updating this do too NO ONE CARES:gay1: but here is an update about a month and a half later. I spent about a week changing rocks around untill i found something that i really liked. There is still one rock that i wanna have it sit a little different or i just dont like where it is.
I put my RKE on this tank along with all my coral in this tank.
I got my Halide Light running after putting a PC ballast in it and a new XM 20K HQI Halide light in it. I also added some of the Digital Aquatics Led Moon lights to the Fixture which already had 2 blue leds in it. 4 blue 2 red and 2 white.
I am running
2 65W pc lamps 12hrs
1 150 HQI 20K 5Hrs
all LEDs are on for about 15-16 hrs a day changing random nights to red only, blue only, all, or none. My buddy came in one night and said "you made purple, damn you." lol

I picked up a Reef Octopus Skimmer NWB-150? i think it is. its rated for 150 gallons  and picks up some stinky stuff. so i put a bag of carbon on the top of it to pull the smell away. it also was splashing alot of water so i made a standpipe type thing for it to keep water splash and noise down.

I just picked up a biopellet reactor on friday and got that running.

I have a section of my 20L sump sectioned off to grow MacroAlgae. i know it isnt much for a fuge but i just like the look of the fuge more than anything, i wanna get a very small fish (clown goby or something) and stick him in there. I have 2 10W halogen lights that are running opposite the tank light cycle. and it is also T-ed off the return, my guess is that it is about 50-75 gal/hr though it.

My live stock right now is a Gold Stripe Maroon. Who is hosting in a Green BTA.
Powder Brown Tank (I know call the tang police on me) he is very small and will be going into a bigger tank when the time comes. but he is the king of the tank and loves to eat. He will eat a whole sheet (4x6) of nori in about 2 hrs. Also loves the HPD food.
I saw someone got cut by their tang and that is why i quit feeding my fish by hand. they would come and bite me anytime that I put my hand in the tank.
Also I have a Yellow watchman and a pistol shrimp that paired up and play in the sand all day long in the back corner.
I am thinking of just one more fish in the tank maybe a Bicolor Dotty back or something really colorful that just swims in the front.
I will do some coral later today when the lights are on. I only have a phone for my camera so i am sorry about the bad photos.

I'm also doing a 40 build with 20 long sump... i'm tagging along for more updates and pics.

I was thinking about getting a 29g sump since it has the same footprint as a 20 long (it's taller).

Your system is very nice and thanks for sharing :)

Nice tank! My brother decided that he wanted to build a 40 breeder reef tank, I decided a 20 long sump for him lol. He is going to have around 75 lbs of live rock and 80lbs of sand. I want to put a fuge section in his sump but wasn't sure how to do that, you give me an idea lol. This is the stock list my brother decided on if you want some ideas.

One B&W Ocellaris
Yellow Prawn Goby with Pistol Shrimp
Pair of Firefish
White Banded Possum Wrasse
Blue Assesor
Tribal Blenny

I thought about the 29 but I didn't want that deep of a tank, I wanted to keep my acrylic to 8 in high for bowing purposes.

I thought about wrasses and other like that but I love not having a top on it. My yellow watchman I saw jumped one time and landed back into the tank.
I have a ton of pods crawling around my tank maybe a mandarin, but I don't want him to starve to I gotta find one that eats frozen.

I got some pics taken thanks to Mpongrac. She was nice enough to come over and take a couple pics for me.:biggthumpup::biggthumpup:

I love 40 breeders, I think i should have started out with one instead of my 125. Thats alot of shiny greens=D:nuts:

i am thinking of a spotted mandarin goby for the final fish. My pod population is out of control! hopefully train it to eat frozen too.

the spotted mandarin in my experience is easier to train than the green mandarin but with that tang in the tank I bet it will be a hassle, when she learns that the tube carries food she be waiting on the other end already:micro::micro: the mandarin most likely runs off. Well mine does.:beerchug:

yea i would do it in my qt tank right away with bagged pods and some HPD and brine. The tang will jump for food already.
