ok so my fish came down with ich and secondary infections while i was away on tdy. i pulled all my fish into a 10g q tank and treated with copper and antibiotics. the combo of the two turned my water a dark red. after ther course of antibiotics i used carbon/water change to remove and clean the water. they still have ich but they look better. the directions on my bottle of copper treatment say 12 drops daily. but it doesnt specify how long to do the treatment for. i was curious for how long i should be adding 12 drops a day. and if/when i should do water changes. the directions dont mention water changes at all. the fish look better but still have ich spots.

What brand of copper are you using. 12 drops a day is alot to dose generally. Once the copper is inside the aquarium it should maintain its copper level unless there is rock or sand to absorb it. Now that you have ran carbon I think your better off doing WC's so you can start fresh. Otherwise you would have to use a copper test kit.

its been about 5 days. i know it takes longer to fight off ich. but i dont want to raise the copper to toxic lvls

it is quickcure AP(aquarium products) brand and the directions say 12 drops per 10 us gallons daily.

don't run carbon. just use the dose daily and make sure you don't have anything else in the tank with them. I dose until the Ich is not visible, then QT for an additional 2 wks without copper

so 12 drops a day untill its gone then q for 2 weeks? when do you start using carbon again? when the ich is gone? any water changes?

Quick Cure is not copper, not sure where you recieved that information....

Quick Cure is Malchite green and formaldehyde.

so i should get some copper then huh?

I'd start by reading up a bit on what ich is and the different ways people combat it. Since all your fish are in a QT tank already I'd suggest copper. But I wouldn't suggest copper without a copper test kit. There are some really good articles on reefcentral and reefsanctuary about this stuff. I linked to on of my favorites above.

I use the cheap copper treatment from Walmart. I've never lost a fish using it, but it will color the silicon in your QT tank blue.
