well it was time for an upgrade!! (1 Viewer)

No not joking. I was thinking a small guy. He would not be able to stay for long, but maybe long enough to rid the algae. I dont like the idea of running a reactor with out having a sump. I dont want the chance of the water destroying my hard wood floors. A crab would be nice, but I cant kepp them alive. Sound like I will have to just keep trying to pull it out.

You don't need a reactor for Chemi-Pure Elite and Purigen. They fit into a HOB filter. If you are out of space in your HOB filter then get one of those little Azoo Palm Filters for $8 to put the media into.

A tang would actually add to your algae problem because they are so messy and poo a lot.

I love my emerald crabs they eat all the algeae up. Some people will disagree. Lawnmower blenny is a good idea too, but a crab will add less bioload.

Gonna look into the Chemi-pure. The only think I have in the hob is a carbon filter that I change out monthly, Having a hard time figuring out how to use this product though. Is it a powder or pellet that I have to put in a bag in the hob, or ?

I like the crabs also, but like I said before I have a hard time keeping them alive. I dont want the added bio load from the blenny. 3 fish in a 6 gallon is already to much. The green hair algae is very little and easy to maintain, Its this red algae Im afraid of. seems to spread slowly.

This is what I think the red stuff is. ?

Still researching riding the algae, Thinking of up grading my hob to an aquaclear 50 or 70, more room for adding media and the hob I have now starting to make alot of micro-bubbles. Driving me bananas. Also I need to get some new bulbs soon. this is starting to look more like a shopping list :)

Wanted to show off the moon lights and the new fan upgrade.

Oh and that is a piece of acrylic mirroring that I had laying around from another job that I used to help block some of the light blinding folks on the couch.

so overall do you think the tank without a sump is pretty easy to maintain? Trying to figure out if I should do a 20g with a hob with carbon and do weekly water changes or drill my 20g and link it to a sump with a skimmer. Probably just keep 1 nemo and corals.

I have a 29gallon, do about 5 gallons every 10-12 days, have a HOB skimmer as well.

do u guys use the regular carbon pad that comes with the hob or do you just use a filter sock and some brs carbon?

I dont use carbon all the time, so when I do, I use it in a meshbag

edit: I see you said HOB, and meant a HOB filter, I run a HOB Skimmer, and no other mechanical filter

I just use the regular old filter pads you buy for your pump. Change them out monthly. Also I do about 3 gallon water changes weekly and siphon out all the poo at the same time. I have pushed off for 2 weeks once in a while, and all seemed well. I don't see a need for a skimmer on a 6 gallon tank. The hob does just fine.

Tank is looking awesome these days. I was given and purchased a few more zoas and some sps. I was getting a little crap on the surface of the tank, and it started to build up on the sides of the tank. I have since added an Koralia Nano pump, and the clown is loving the added flow. Now I run two 250 gph pumps. One on each side of tank. Was planning on making a overflow and adding a mini jet to the bottom of it, But since I only do top off every other day, was afraid the pump would run dry and I dont have room for ato.
Sorry for bad pics. Im no good with my wife's slr.
