Been working on my new house non-stop for the past week painting and cleaning and I finally got some time to work on the "most important" thing on my mind right now, my reef build! The stand is nearing completion, just need to finish staining the doors and mount them and it should be good to go. I decided to order a glass hole kit from glassholes.com to drill an emergency drain and a hole for my return line, once that is finished it should be ready for water :)

How do you like the Blue?!

And I'm contemplating mounting some moulding for the base of the stand.. I wasn't going to at first but seeing it now makes it look a little top heavy (design wise). What does everyone think? Would be another piece of 1x3 like the top with possibly another 1x1 on the bottom of the 1x3.

Is it my lame iPhone or did you photo link not work??

If you hate your iPhone so much, why don't you throw it in the garbage? Every thread you complain about itlol

By the way love the stand! Add some moulding to the bottom deffinetly.

Well did a little more work on the stand last night and today, as well as drilling another hole for an emergency drain and a hole for my return. Have to thank Glass-holes.com for the bit, bulkheads, and pvc pieces!

I am so close to finishing the stand I can almost see it plump full of aquarium equipment, its killing me! Tomorrow I will be putting the doors on and its finished!!! I added the bottom moulding, looks great and I'm glad I did it :)

Everything is sitting in the corner of my basement WAITING to be set up and put together..

..So I figured why not put the skimmer together and get the sump layout set up. Here is how it will look.. except in reverse; skimmer on left, jager heater, mag 7 return on right side

Hopefully by Monday evening the aquascape will be in the DT and ready for water!!

**One question though, should I run my skimmer during the initial cycle? and how much would a CUC benefit the tank during its cycle.. Thanks guys!

The return line looks a bit low. You may have to put lock line on it and bring it closer to the surface. That way when the power goes out the tank doesn't siphon all the way down to the return line.

I love he stand look amazing!! Nice work!!

Yup loc line will be on the return and will bring it up to the surface for some agitation!

I love seeing all these reef builds :D
Only problem is you have to get past the stand part :swear: :grr: :brick: :brick1: :chatter: :poke: :wzbigcry: :biga: :deadhorse: :bluescreen: :bigw: :trout2:

Such a big part of the actual build! soon there shall be water.. sooooooon! Believe me I want water in this bad boy more than you do!! lol

You may regret putting the overflow directly under the trim. If a fish goes in there, good luck getting it out! Everything else looks great though!!!

Only worry i have is your last chamber with your return pump. You dont have that much evaporation space. Your last baffle is a bit low.

Return head ifs PVC, no worries about a fish getting into the overflow because there will be glass tops, and the return pump compartment and basically the entire sump was designed off of the melevs reef DIY sump. Why should I be worried about evaporation in the 3rd compartment?

as water evaporates from the system, it usually evaporates from the 3rd chamber. Bigger it is, less chance water gets to low and burns out the pump. make sure u get a good ato system.

I see what you mean now, but the baffle in between compartment 2 & 3is an inch shorter than the last baffle in the row of three, and that baffle is an inch shorter than the first baffle so water is always going to want to run down hill into the 3rd. But the deed i s done now oh well we’ll see how it works out, if its not very efficient I'll scrap it and make another one.

If you just move that baffle a few inches it would increase the volume quite a bit...

Cant move it though.. the 15" 200w Jager heater is already corner to corner in the middle compartment. Ahh well, you live and you learn!
