Oceanic Tech 120 (1 Viewer)

I should try to get a pic of it, it's doing good. Starting to grow more and the polyps are always nice and open. It's encrusting now too. I just noticed that not long ago. I'm sure soon it will be taking over! :)

good to here. i may have to get a frag back from you down the road! im kinda missing the 125g now. still got my biocube going and just put in a 24 led kit too!

I saw the leds, sweet! I'd love to upgrade from T-5's to LEDs at some point when $$ allows.

Your 125 was awesome, I was sad to see it go. I'll have frags for ya!

Fantastic looking build. How's the ATS working out?

Thanks for the kind words.

The ATS was growing very little green algae but a lot of brown/slime. I don't know quite what the issue was, I think my lighting was sufficent (2 cfl bulbs, one on each side) and close enough. I don't know if maybe my flow wasn't quite enough or right or what.

I took the ATS offline 10 days ago or so to do some maintenance and cleaning of my sump. I plan to put the ATS back but might convert it to the UAS version and see how that goes. I'll start out with a CFL lighting it but hope to convert to a few leds if possible.

Hmmm, IIRC brown slime means not enough light, may be worth trying the higher wattage CFL bulbs and see if you have any luck. Heard some mixed opinions on the UAS but have been very tempted to try one myself. Currently my refugium section of my sump is empty so debating on an ATS or some miracle mud in tupperware trays to make the 50% yearly changes easy and some macro algae. Keep us updated!

Yeah, I know there are mixed reviews on the UAS, but i figured it was cheap enough to try out. i still have the frame for my waterfall version so i can easily go back to that. I may try cutting a new slot for the waterfall one if I think I'll go back to it. flow was irregular at times as well.

We'll see how this goes first.

The sps is kinda brown, the tips are blue though so there is hope!

So recent changes have occurred. Added a copper banded butterfly to the tank last week. It's been a slow started on getting comfortable and eating and being bullied by the powder brown.

On that note, we decided to remove the powder brown from the tank. The 4' length wasn't really ideal for him anymore anyway. This is what the process looked like for removing the powder brown:

The top pic is the tank all tore apart. We had to remove 75% of the rock or more to get him out. The middle pic is the rock and corals hanging out in a tub. After some re-scaping late last night, the last pic is what it looks like today.

We traded in the powder brown for this little guy:

He's about 1.5" total length. He's so cute! I think he's going to grow up to be a yellow mimic/chocolate tang. Or, that's what he's suppsoed to grow up to be. lol

We are looking forward to watching him grow and change and if he is a chocolate, he should be good to go long term in our tank.

Also on a brighter note after the powder brown was removed the copper banded was swimming all over the tank and checking things out, so this is encouraging.

Switched out my MP40 for a Tunze 6205. Holy cow does that thing provide flow! It's enough by itself at the moment, but planning to add a second 6205 and control them with the 7095 Tunze controller. Should provide some pretty awesome flow when it's all said and done.

Plus this way they'll be usable on a future upgrade. :gay1:
