lost some fish - bad/old brine shrimp ? (1 Viewer)

i lost a clown and blenny today, possibly a crab, not sure how long its been dead. the fish were healthy a day or two ago then i fed a chunk of frozen brine shrimp thats probly from a package a few yrs old, looked like that section the foil may have broken a seal. this is the only thing i can think of cause my water seems good only a little low on salt. my other clown (last remaining fish) is on its deathbed.

could that be what happen

Very unlikely. I'd start with a big water change and check all your water parameters.

crap.. that sucks. i had these clowns for like 5 yrs, they were a mated pair i raised from my 1st 20gallon sw tank

I've fed food that had freezer burn from being opened and never had an issue. While not impossible, really no way to know.

Large water changes ( assuming your not using tap ) as frequently as possible until thing stabalize.

I'd resist trying to replace the fish for at least a month to be sure everything is back to normal.

Currently, I feed around 2 years old food to my fishes. no issues.

ya i will probably test everything tonight but those fish were hard asses, they lived in some poor conditions (seriously) like no filter for months and crappy lighting while i was just too busy, survived a move riding shotgun in a tank with 2" of water sloshing around

now i finally gave them a proper home, in wall tank with sump and skimmer etc.. good lighting. and now they die.

well i will figure it out, probably end up getting a lionfish now that my favorite small fish are gone

electrical current? my fish survived a bad heater that was stinging me when i would put my hand in, this was a year or so ago, yes i used silicone and it was aquarium safe and dried a 24+ hrs

i dont remember like 4 months? i took the water in to get tested before i added my clowns (already had a small crew) and i took a sample in after i lost the fish before i did good sized water change, they didnt see anything bad

I will be the first to admit I am totally over zealous when it comes to care for my pets. Keeping that in mind............

I worry about feeding food from a food party a year ago - what made you think it was ok to feed food that old?

Im not saying your wrong - just wondering what your standards on what you feed your fish and why do you decide that?

Based on all info - as with many things in this hobby......could be a myriad of things - sorry I cant contribute but your case is helping (helping at least me anyway).................Good Luck dude

Li has said to me on more than one occasion, 'could be bad food'. He has seen and fed more fish than I ever will in my entire lifetime. It is his opinion that when you feed frozen, even out of a new pack, sometimes there is just 'a bad piece'. He's fed his fish and literally within a few minutes seen a fish acting weird. Day later, stuck on the power head. Of course, no one can prove it, but that is his opinion. "sometimes, bad food". Pellets etc, far less likely, he says.

My reaction to this, not having any other information and making the assumption that there isn't anything else out of the ordinary that has happened (sometimes not a good assumptiong) was, "yes, that sounds likely".

With frozen, when in doubt, I throw it out.
