title says it, what is this it seems to be growing so fast to be zoas, and thats the only rock its on. The apstasia is on assorted rocks.. I believe its some kind of zoa but unsure, it came as a few polyps on a piece of live rock a while ago and here it grows

sorry about the crappy phone picture

See if they are growing on a "mat". If they are separated and retract into little holes in the rocks, then they are not palys.

Yeah, looks like some sort of ugly zoanthid or palythoa, but it's hard to tell.

Ang.... Glass anemones are aptasia. Unless that's what you were getting at.

the retract just like the zoas into there own polyps all in a cluster

Parazoanthus? Not harmful, but IMO ugly enough to replace with something else.
there different, the center is kind of a blueish color and the rest is red/brown, except the silver points

id say zoa or pally not the most colorful but id take a frag if you frag them
i could attempt, you still in eagle lake?

I had something similar a while back, it's not a zoa, it's not aiptasia, it might be a glass anemone. I read up on those once a long time ago and I remember them being similar in appearance to aiptasia and palys, with virtually no color to them, appearing grayish or brownish.

I don't believe them to be the same, they are different in appearance in my opinion, but if they are growing only in a colony that leads me to believe it's some kind of paly, where as glass anemones and aiptasia spread to all rock in a tank. I've never seen either grow in a colony like that.

There are at least 13 different species of Aptasia. There are going to be variances in appearance. Glass anemone is simply another name for aptasia, as whitebarred wrasse is to mystery wrasse.

I would nuke them regardless what they are. When in doubt.......

Even if they aren't pest anemones they wouldn't make the cut.

is there a way to nuke them without killing the rest of the corals growing on the rock? like almost direct nuke?
