Need help getting my skimmer up and running on rea sea max250 ,shoot air bubbles inti tank, and any help would help Thanks Jesse

Jesse, can u dial it down a bit, sometimes the skimmer needs to break in for a few days and then the microbubbles should dissipate.

Hey everyone,

Kind of funny story, I was referred here by a girl that spoke highly of TCMAS group. I talked to her at the PETCO in Minnetonka for probably 30-45 minutes. She seemed knowledgable and I believe she said her dad was a member of the group as well. Anybody know her handle on here? Or an email perhaps? I think she goes to Wisconsin-Stout, at least thats what her lanyard said.

Not tryin to get a date, just should of got her contact information when I talked to her and it slipped my mind. Now I'm wishing I had a go-to mentor for all my tank questions.

Sounds kinda like Jhawk - is this her? Dont think her hair is that color anymore though

and :bump1: for help for Jesse

Hey everyone,

I just started up a 20 gallon saltwater tank and wouldn't mind a few pointers. After a while I feel like there's only so much I can absorb from a book or the internet. I'm looking to do a couple upgrades here soon, specifically lighting for a couple a small reef system.

Yep! That was me! Glad to see you made it on here! Welcome!!

Looking for some help, getting into the reef side of things from fish only. Anyone south of the river/Burnsville area looking to take on an ignorant guy as a project/ministry?

Thanks!

I'm in Eagan and able to also offer general advice. If you have any questions, PM us or feel free to post on the open forum :goldfish:
After the saltwater expo this weekend, I can probably stop by to check out your setup.

Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate it! Right now I am curing some live rock and live sand. I have about 25 gallons of water in my 65 with good flow, I just need to do some aquascaping and hook everything up. (Fingers crossed) I will need to acquire a skimmer somewhere but i have enough pumps, good lights, a sump, plenty of lr and ls. I will send you both PMs on updates and would love your advice/help/suggestions.

Thanks again!

Michael

I just bought my first tank from another member today and I have no idea how to set anything up. I think I have most of the items needed for the setup but I have no idea what to do after I get the water in the tank from the ro/di system I just bought today. Anyone want to help a newbie out. I live in richfield.

The tank is a 75g acrylic with sump
I just bought 80lbs of live sand tonight along with a bucket of salt.

Thanks,
Kyle

New to the area and looking for a mentor

Hello all,

My name is Jake, and I am very new to the area and new to the hobby. Being new at this I would love to get in touch with an experienced mentor who could give me some solid advice. I am very excited to join what seems to be an extremely strong and active group of club members who have the same affliction that I do. I live in Uptown and I am always willing to share food and beer/wine.

Welcome Kyle and Jake to TCMAS!!! There are a lot of great people with many years of experience and I believe you will find that we're a very close group of people that extends beyond the forum :beerchug:. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to post a thread where people can answer your questions (we're pretty easy-going, so non reef related banter is good too).

Lets see some pictures!! :)

:bump1: for new member help!!!!!

and Jake - as a brand new member - thank you so much for stepping up to host a meeting!!!!

It was nice to meet you Michael! I hope you were able to get to the hardware store to pick up your plumbing supplies. Let me know when you get your sump up and running!

HI! after a million years I am finally getting back into sw. Currently running a 75g mostly natives, and a 75g Malawi I will be getting a 75g SW. I was very successful in the late 80's with my sw, but so much has changed since then and I didn't have any live rock or inverts, the tank I'm getting has them.

One urgent ? I have that can't seem to find answer on forum is; do I try to save as much water from the tank to refill when I get it home- my concern is that the tank hasn't been cleaned in over a month (maybe longer) and I'm concerned that I might get a ammonia spike since I will take at least three hours to break down tank and get it home, vs. filling with new salt water and worrying about the change in water parameters. thoughts???

My view is to always start fresh with new water. Make sure the new water is well mixed, up to temp and right salinity. Acclimate the livestock over just like you would when buying from a store etc.

There is nothing "special" in the existing water. Most likely it's not that great and would be more of a negative than a positive in the long term.
