so i had this tank set up for a few months and decided that no matter how much i try i am just not someone who can do carpentry... and i knew my fiancee (bless her soul for not saying anything) really wanted me to either redo or hire out someone to remake my stand and canopy. over the summer i got the opportunity to open a kitchen in a new restaurant, the owners ended up having their construction companies offices above the bar n grille. so i turned to them to take my trash and transorm it into a piece of furniture. this also allowed me to make a few changes to reduce what little noise there was. and tbh i was really suprised how my thrown together plumbing was actually quite quiet... but a few tweeks made it virtually silent.



tank- Marineland cube 30x30x18 (drilled)

sump- 23x 23x14

lighting- leds consisting of 2 evil par 30's 14k and (55x3w bridgelux leds) 27 Royal Blues, 6 10K White, 10 6500K White, 2 3500K white, 6 420nm True Violet, 2 660nm Red and 2 525 Green (all dimmable except the 2 evil pars)

skimmer- swc160 or 180... not sure... i bought it from keifer....

return pump- quiet one 4000 (really like this pump... its quiet, quiet, quiet)

powerheads- 2 tunze 6045's (but i can see the cords so its a very safe bet these will be upgraded to vortechs in the VERY neer future)

biological filtration- 40lbs eco rock, 15-20 lbs of rubble... hard to say exact weight as there is about 1.5 5gal buckets worth in the tank, and ive picked up 15-20 lbs of lr from a few of the different lfs around town... mainly to get a diversity. still looking for one more piece i think... i also decided to add 40 lbs of ls..

Dude, I could have done that, let me know if you need simple carpentry work in the future, more importantly if you ever need an experienced bartender/bar manager I'm your guy! Can't wait to see pics, I'm totally a cube tank guy! I love 'em!

Marineland 45? Cool tank dude! I want to tank the rim off one of those but it's probably too tall for that!

70 gal 30x30x18


edit- i dont think i could have a smaller tank as a show/display tank... i know there are many many many smaller tanks that are stunning.... just to many beautiful corals out there space is at a premium already..... and its empty

Marineland will do it as a custom order (including the beveled edges and black silicone). It was a very nominal upcharge over the cost of the tank new. Most of the LFS can order them.

Looking great cubetankguy! Would love to see pics of the new stand and canopy.
 
stand pics will have to wait until tommarow... the lady and her phone are all tucked in for the night..... and i dont have a light fixture by the tank to illuminate the stand and canopy...

tcmas member yellow stoped by tonight just ask him lol......

great dims on this tank love the look...not too big not too small. enough swimming room for a wrasse and tang to enjoy. what is your plans for stocking? lps.sps.softy mixed? fish plans?
 
stocking plans include everything but most nems (the front patch of rubble rock im going to look for some higher end mini maxi's) then the rest will be lps/softy/z&p/nps... the fuzzy sticks do nothing for me personally......

fish stocking list (a combination of some sort off the list not everything you see here)
trio of leopard wrasses
either a yellow or purple tang
copperband
japanese gold hawkfish
midas blenny
yellow banded possum wrasse
yellow striped cardnal fish
Acares Midget Reef Chromis
green or red mandarin
yasha golby
blue spot jawfish

inverts
pair of blood shrimp
couple cleaner shrimp
1 or 2 urchins not sure on species quite yet... ive had long spines in the past
linka starfish or 2
croerca and maxima clams... (notice the plural..... theres going to be a decent ammount of clams in here as well)



EDIT- it appears i really like yellow fish or fish with alot of yellow in them..... lol

That's some crap luck. Have fun sorting that out. When will you start introducing livestock?
