The 280 is finally going to get set up.. (1 Viewer)

What did you use for all of the rock work cement/ epoxy? Looks like you would have needed a million tubes of aquastik if you were using something like that.

And, are those cut up pieces of schedule 80 as the risers off the bottom? If so, I really wish I would have known about that concept a year ago.:book2: Smart!

I used motar from Marco Rocks, which looking at it after I got it looks like something I could have purchased from HD for a lot less.

But it did work well for the job so I am happy with the results.

As for the rock work here are some pictures of some of the construction (I wish they would have come out better I would have made a thread about it if they did):

Ah you meant from the bottom of the rock work didn't you?

Yes, the fiberglass rods seemed a bit too wobbly (although they were awesome at holding things in place until I could mortar the rock together) so I figured I would just throw some silicone down a piece of pipe so the pipe would stay where I wanted it, and cement the heavier pipe to the bottom of the rock work. It is a lot more stable this way.

I pushed down pretty hard on all of the rock work and I feel it is very secure in there. So I will not fear gluing coral to it.

The structures appear top heavy, is there a peice of plastic at the bottom to hold the structure upright and counter balance if the corals add more weight on one side?

It's not. look at the bottom pieces again they're like boulders compared to the upper piece which are very light pieces of rubble. Plus the middle and far left section are cemented together. And the two sections on the right are also cemented together.

Add to that, there are also bridge piece cemented to the back wall it's a very sturdy structure.

You're welcome to come take a look anytime Tak. Bring pipe cement :)

It was not clear to me that there was support from the back wall.
I would love to stop by soon..but it will be a little while.. but I will be sure to be in touch before the cold season is gone, after that the priorities move outside ;)

Sounds good...

went well today, as bummed as I was yesterday with my decision to tear down half the filtershed. I am nearly equally happy with tonight's progress. If all goes well I will end this weekend where I left off last weekend, and I will only have lost a week.

So a pallet just arrived I guess I have some salt now:

Still need to put that WC system together. number one priority after I put the shed back together.

So I have the filter shed all back together (for the most part a few minor things need tweaking).

I have a question old plumbing vs new plumbing I will probably ask this in another post as well since a lot of folks probably don't follow this thread.

Here is the old plumbing:

The two 90's the lead into the return sump. Do you think I should have made T's and vented those? Would that have helped the flow back into the return sump?

I added the T's on the new plumbing because I wondered about that after the fact. It looks like this.

Also the new plumbing with the better drop on the return lines (as best I can get because I did not want to stop reassembly to take pictures I just wanted it done.

Did you have those water tanks shipped to your residence? Plastic-mart has the perfect water tanks I need (dimensions wise) but I just can't justify $100 in shipping..

What size are those tanks? That's a sweet setup. Hopefully someday I can make a setup like that!

to where I work it was $70.00ish to have them shipped here. For me it was worth the cost because space is so limited in the filter shed getting something that fit was a huge factor. Back when I was asking about tanks I had a few folks recommend other local places but the prices of the tanks alone were more than these + shipping.

Thanks, dims are here:

link.

click for the drawings to see the actual tank dims. the one in the picture is not the one on the drawing or the one you'll get. Wish it were that has a nice large top on it.

Not a great weekend for getting anything done. had some family matters that needed my attention far more than this tank.

I did manage to get a few things done earlier so I thought I would post an update.

Here is where I left off with the plumbing coming back down to the tank:

This was pretty much the extent of the flow I had prior to the last change:

pretty good velocity but until I get the new plumbing up and running I won't know what I have. I decided to go with three 3/4" lines per return line. I think that should be fine but I will find out soon enough. what I have is 1.5" return lines the T off into three 1" lines then from there into 3/4" loc line.

So it looks like this coming in to the tank:

I also received my new sump from ArstenA. He really does nice work (when his wife let's him :) ).

This one holds about 3 times as much as my old sump which evidently looked a lot bigger than it was lol. I really should have done the math and figured out what the volume of that sump was. It will make a really nice frag tank for someone when I put up up for sale for super cheap. But that will be later.
I need to get that new sump plumbed up for now.

If all goes well I should be making water tonight. I decided for the first few batches I will skip the sexy WC mix station I made and just use the 325 as a mixer since I will need really large batches.

Water making has been REALLY slow lol I need to get my other RO unit up and running.

I am using my old (from my first build) RO unit and I was curious to see if it would even work after all of these years in storage. I wrapped it in shrink wrap about 6 years ago because I was worried the membrane might dry out (I am not sure this is even an issue I know nothing about these things) but to be on the safe side I wrapped it up.

I replaced all of the filter cartridges (5 stage unit) and the TDS reading is 4 out of the first four stages and 0 after the DI stage. So I think the membrane is fine.

I have more filter cartridges on order for the other unit and will get it on line as soon as they come in. I am just glad the old units made it. I've already spent enough on this build as it is.

I froze my old RO unit in storage, cracked a few of the canisters.

Are you using 2x membranes? Goes way faster with 2x...

one of the things I have really been blessed with has been the space to store all of my old equipment here at work. Saving it from the garage and the freeze issue you had to deal with.

I am currently using a standard 5 stage RO unit. since it was off of my old 125 it was only a 75g per day unit. I have another RO unit ii storage I will get up and running but it is only a 45g per day unit but every little bit helps. Once I am up and running I think these will be fine. I just need to continue being patient :)

Well I would still need the filter cartridges regardless these one were easily 8 years old. But that's a pretty good idea and for only $60.00 I think a good investment. But I want to get the 45g up and running anyhow I think it will stay in the laundry room and feed my makeup water system.

Thanks for the link
