Picked up some 29 gallon tanks from petco and wondering if any one knows if the bottom is glass or tempered glass.

would like to drill the bottom to install a drain . one for salt mix other for quarantine. two less pumps id have to buy with gravity draining.

Kyle said at last swap to use polarized sunglasses but both tanks are full right now :)

was it supposed to be black one way and not the tilted the other way if its glass or tempered?

It should be labeled tempered if it is. Especially if they are new. I believe 29 gallons are not tempered on any side nor bottom. Good to drill. The thinner glass can be the challenge though. I have drilled a couple and it seems like the last mm is where the drill bit gets stuck and goes crack. I would say I'm .900 when drilling smaller tanks.
With polarized sunglasses and a Cell phone the corners should turn into a rainbow coloring. Check YouTube to see what it should look like.

thanks for the confidence :lookaround:

Just being honest... I have :bawling: over them a couple times... :beerchug:
Just stay straight with the bit. I have always free handed them. That may be why I have broke a couple. Just go slow with it and keep the drill speed up.... If that makes sense? Just remember if you break one you have a tank to practice on then to gain confidence. One of them drill guides may be handy, but the trim has always been to close for me to use one.
Most shops won't guarantee drilling smaller tanks just for that reason.
